I think it was about 1978 that they started making them cheap. I mentioned to my wife that I would like a Model 37 thinking the ones I had seen were about as good as the Model 12 Winchester. Well she bought me a M37 at Wlmart that year for about 150$ I believe. It was stamped metal. But the old thing has hung together and never misss fired, it occassioanally drops a shell since the intake and eject are the same hole.

lyle, i had to bite on this one. shotgun woman from way back.
okay, did it ever jam up on shells???? i know the problem you have. i personally would invest in a mossberg. through and through.
i have shot ithaca's and the faster you fired the more she jammed up. yes, it was a she . wasnt really impressed ever. mossberg got my heart .

thanks everyone that has replied.... jim,that helped me alot. the one i have is a featherlight m-87 20 gauge that shoots 3 inch shells, has a setter lookin dog and some pheasants engraved on one side and some ducks on the other side and has a gold trigger. the gun has like a dark walnut look to it. i aquired the gun in a trade and was wonderin if i did any good......lol

i got one i can empty as fast as you can empty an automatic that hasnt ever jammed but my brother got some mud in the barrel rabbit hunting and it busted at about 15inches.... would love to own another just like it

76 sounds like the style was it a anniversary addition

Patches - if the barrel ruptured, you might check Numrich arms/ Gunparts, just search web, they have a bunch of parts such as barrels and about anything else, new or used, might make the old gun new again. The newer ones wasn't made as good as the old ones, but folks liked them.

Kell - would have to agree on the old Mossberg, it might rattle but it is the only one that you can drop in a hog lot pick it up and not have to worry about if it will shoot or not ... if barrel is not plugged it will shoot and function perfect !

Mines a model 37 featherlight, same crude engravings as described above. No, it never jammed, never had to dig one out, sometimes one falls out. I still use it duck hunting so I can hear when a shell hits the floor and just pump it again whithout thinking about it. Probably used it for a boat paddle at times too.
Mossburg is good. My son bought a new one that was won at a DU banquet when he was 14. He had to growup to it some though. It was big and bulky. But I think it was chambered for three or three and ahalf inch shells.

i have 2 37s and an 87 both, the 87 had the cor con pump and was a little less dressy looking. love my ithacas.
