My Editorial

Radicals are Rapidly Removing our Rights to Own and Breed Animals.

Illegal and warrant-less raids on animal owners initiated by radical Animal Rights
(AR) organizations such as the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) are increasing in frequency assisted by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), frequently carrying animals away to designated, often out of state locations.
The goals of HSUS and PETA are the extinction and breeding of domestic animals and the elimination of all meat, fish, poultry and dairy from menus worldwide.
There are numerous ways these groups erode ownership and breeding activities. Many methods are utilized such as the well planned indoctrination of children by supplying classroom teaching materials that include chapters in textbooks touting Veganism along with negatively describing raising livestock, hunting or using hounds. Most parents are unaware of classroom topics.
AR groups publish ads in print and on television featuring tragic or cute photos of puppies and kittens, implying they help and support shelters that rescue stray or mistreated animals.
Local shelters struggle to stay solvent and need financial help along with donations of food, bedding, groomers and dog walkers. Unfortunately the public mistakenly associates the HSUS and ASPCA with local facilities that are operating independently.
The truth is that less than one percent of the multimillions of dollars donated to HSUS by a gullible, uninformed public goes to help shelters. HSUS operates no shelters, yet their salaries, lifestyles, pension fund and luxury trips continue to grow. (see www.HumaneWatch.org for more facts).
HSUS generously funds lobbyists and politicians promoting the AR agenda, raising the question of financial support Texas Gov. Rick Perry received toward his Presidential campaign for signing TX HB 1451 promoted by HSUS and Texas Humane Legislative Network (THLN), a branch of HSUS.
HB 1451, originally named “The Puppy Mill” bill is in reality a “Pet Elimination” bill pushed with misrepresented content and intent by Thompson and Whitmire. The bill is disturbing because it proposes unrealistic requirements for dog care and breeding that surpass those of nursing homes. In addition, the bill has anonymous “snitch” provisions (much to the joy of AR groups) that can prompt unjustified raids and seizures caused by malicious, overzealous radicals.
(see www.petakillsanimals.com ).
By the time animal control or local law enforcement enter someone's property because of an unsubstantiated anonymous report, it's too late for the victim to salvage a lifetime hobby or lifestyle because the AR groups typically notify newspapers and TV crews of a “raid” to assure successful character and reputation assassination.
Few animal owners can afford the luxury of retaining an attorney to handle these raids and resulting seizures. And before owners can take action to save their animals, it's often too late because raiding organizations quickly euthanize or spay, neuter and transport animals to other locations – usually out of state and sometimes to Canada.
Many seized animals die from the trauma, while others are sold at “shelters” that operate as pet shops, actually selling beloved pets that were torn from loving and caring homes.
There are hundreds of well run, non-profit rescue groups saving the lives of pets doomed for euthanasia in kill shelters by pulling and fostering them until “forever” homes are found.
Sadly the AR groups have become increasingly involved in the politics of controlling our pet and livestock ownership because they aggressively fund politicians and lobbyists more interested in lining their own pockets than in paying attention to the erosion of our freedoms, constitutional rights and lifestyles. (see www.hsussucks.com )
