Car GPS Unit and Route Issue

Back earlier this year I updated and bought a new Garmin for my truck. Put the old one in my hunting truck.

I discovered a problem yesterday with the new Garmin.

Same destination, different route, different garmin

Both Garmins have the same map, same settings, though the new Garmin took me nearly 50 miles off course on the route where as the other Garmin is spot on.

Loaded same destination address in both Garmins this morning and showed 2 different routes.

The new Garmin took me in the back country well off the Interstate for 50 extra miles plus more travel time.

I was wondering if any of you GPS buffs have any ideas.

Been taking this trip every year for the last few years and this year was the first one with the new Garmin and wasn't expecting that.

I updated the map software this morning to 2012 and still is wanting to route me through the backwoods -- you know those 25 mile curvy 2 lane 40mph backroads - LOL.

I have a Tom Tom for my car, not a Garmin, so I do not know if this even applies or not but my Tom Tom can be set to avoid certain route features if you want it to.
The routes should be the same unless one of these avoid features is activated.
I know you can set the Tom Tom to avoid toll roads and other things but I do not remember what they are because I have never used that feature.
Maybe something like this is activated in the new one that is not in the old one?

jack, I'll gave to check into that site.

intellectualist, both Garmins have the same map, same settings. When I bought the new one, I went through and matched my settings and brought over my "Extras" so they would match. Compared my settings this morning and they are still the same.

It't the only place I have been to this year that didn't match the route the other Garmin takes.

From what I have found for others who have the problem with both devices with same settings is different algorithms.

I updated the new Garmin to the 2012 map this morning and in the process of putting the 2012 map on an SD card for my old Garmin.....also updated the software on both......gonna check the old Garmin's route with the 2012 map later.

garmin

does your have the detour settings some have. or maybe your shortest route w/ least stops is set sometimes that setting makes a difference. if work is being done on interstate sometimes detour
setting will pick it up it all reads of the digital construction warning signs. thats why some radar detectors pick up those sign
