Garmin Compass ?

Garmin guru's I could use some help. The Compass on my garmin wont calibrate and the compass wont move. When I try to calibrate it the screen freezes up. Also when I'm on the topo map it wont rotate when i turn but keeps track of the dog.

I just got it back because the internal antenna was broke, I hope I dont have to send it back!

On a side note; it was dang hot tonite. Kinda sucks for oaks.

Thanks

Try what he said ^^^^
If that does not work, look in the manual and see if there is a reboot process. I have never looked to see about that. You will have to power it up while holding a combination of buttons down.
You will probably loose everything you have stored.
Have you verified that Garmin sent you the exact same unit back that you sent them? Check the serial #.
Would it not make you mad if Garmin had an Astro someone sent back for repair because of a problem and Garmin could not replicate the problem and Garmin just cloned that one to yours so the data stored would be the same as the one you sent and then sent it to you!!!

I have went thru garmins lists of things to try before and the reboot that deadeye posted was always the last thing to try.
The warranty used to be a year on a repaired astro, but think it is 6 months now. So if yours is still under warranty I would send it back before it runs out. They tried to get me to send them $150 to repair one under warranty, after a little discussion they fixed it without the money.
I agree you do not get yours back, just a refurbished one.
Good luck.

Before you spend any money on a 220 get a 320 compas is a lot better , getting around in the menue is better , range is better ,and you will like it better only thing I dislike or was dissapointed in is the birds eye , too long to download and then it is only a small portion at a time also not that great a view zoomed in .

I just dealt with Garmin on a out of warranty dc30. They replaced it for free. I shot them an email and they sent me one back asking for me to try a few things. I sent them one back after I tried them.
They then sent me an Return authorization number. The next day they sent me another email to print out to put in the box stating it would be replaced for free.

Here's the link I used. I clicked the out of warranty link on the right.
http://www8.garmin.com/support/warranty.html

Good luck. They did me right..

Different ?

How often do you all "recalibrate" your compass?

I have a 220 that is about 2 years old and it seems like at least every other time I use it the compass is off by 15-45 degrees. I recalibrate and all is good. Then I talk to others who have them and they say they have never had to recalibrate , or if so, very rarely?

Also, once in a while the arrow/pointer on the screen will be off by 15-30 degrees. For example, I am walking straight north and the "track" of my path is straight north but the little pointer is cocked to the NE.

i have noticed that it seems the more updating that is done on these things, the more problems one encounters. I have never did an update, and i never had any problems with my unit. 220 and 30 collar. I might just be lucky, but if i am, it will be a first.

I recalibrate my compass each time I change batteries or if I notice it's off.

As far as the Updates hurting the Astro or the collars thats WAY OFF. The updates fix problems with them.
