I had three dogs over the course of two years that were off the same famous " big beautiful and loud " GR NT CH hound. I got them all from the same guy that had sent all three to the same professional trainer. They were all a year and a half to two and a half when I got them. They would not run with another dog. When the other dog treed, if you were in open woods, you could see his eyes about a hundred yards off from the tree but he wouldn't come in. Then I realized they had been beat to make them independent. I had to lead them to the tree and encourage them, something I don't even do with 5 month old pups. Eventually they all started running and treeing and any one of them could deafen you at a tree. I'm not saying I straightened them out like a dream trainer but I was able to get them into hands that fed them the rest of their life and were satisfied with them. These dogs could take an old track and work it up but then let other dogs leave them in the dust if they ever got on a running coon , and they were so big and able is what beat me. In all honesty you don't get that many running coons in a year so these guys were pretty happy about drowning out their buddies dogs at the tree.
I would much rather take a chance on a hound that just plain has not been hunted or given a chance than one that has been professionally ruint.
That is not specific to Stylish Nut. I don't know them. I have had alot of Stylish line and original Hickory NUT Harry and even Ball's Stylish Hickory Nut Harry but these weren't them even though they did wear the Stylish name, but heck, everything wore the Stylish name back then. I was talking about taking on an older dog is all.
