From my experience with them they are some of the best tree dogs you'll find. Mine wont leave the tree till I pull them off, even after hours and hours of treeing. Most seem to start early but just like every breed there are others that it takes awhile. I got a couple that will tree their own coon no problem. You shoudn't have any trouble treeing somes coons for pleasure hunting with the dog. They are more big game bred so as long as you arent competition hunting the dog on coons you should be fine. They arent like the slick treeing competition dogs, they will pound a track out and move it a little slower. One thing is they all arent fast, there are fast ones that Ive seen but there are also some that are slow as molasses! Overall I think some great dogs but thats just my .2 cents.

1\2 Cameron Male

I own one that is also Cameron bred on the bottom. He is a pretty nice dog. He is not perfect but he has run up some good scores around here.

Track Speed

My male is a grand pup of Bullet on top. Not super cold nosed and not real slow. Don't set the woods on fire but not real slow. I crossed him on a Bullet II female to try and improve on track speed. The young dogs are a year old and seems like they will have a decent track speed only time will tell.

glynnsdawgs is right they can be pretty slow. If you do find two dogs that are Cameron and they are fast I recommend breeding them for a pretty good total package. There are slow dogs, and fast, in every breed but in the Camerons I think one of the things they lack for the most part is speed. I saw one female that was my buddies and she was fast. I would of owned her for sure.

come for a hunt

All I can say is come hunt. Then you can make a determination. I don't brag it just makes you eat words.

I have a Cameron male. Fast starter but slow going. He took the first cat track I ever put him on. Will grub one out for sure. Just slow on a jumped cat. His nose is the best I've seen. Takes every cat track I throw him on. I also have a Cameron/sugar creek female. She's pretty fast. Runs with her head up. Not as much nose

Cameron

I have a four year old full cameron bred male. He is a Grand Night champion, and needs one win on the bench to be grand show. He has been DNA profiled, and I will stud him out if any intrest. If someone is intrested in seeing him hunt, I will gladly show him most any night. I would not call him a great (hot nosed, slick treeing, growly) competition dog. He is cold nosed and will hunt very deep. In thin coon this makes him really shine. He is not a super hard tree dog, but makes up for it locating and being accurate. I have cat hunted him alot. He does a real nice job cold trailing, but could stand to become a bit better on jumped cats exspecially in tight circles. He has very solid feet, and seldom if ever bleeds even on poor snow. He was bear hunted a good bit young, never seemed to be his preferred game, and after a pretty good injury has all but quite them. This flustrates me,but with his cat hunting ability I can live with it. I have never seen one handle better, or break off trash easier. He is around 55 pounds in shape, with a very houndy build. He is out of Sundown Syrus and Sundown Blue Lace. Fourth generation back this dog is solid Cameron top and bottom.
