Shocking A Snake Bite

I ran into this thread on a beagle board.

http://forums.huntingboards.com/vie...?f=3&t=3461

I have never had a dog snake bit in this part of Illinois, so I have no comment. But, we coon hunters often have a shocking collar around and using a shocking collar on a snake bite may save a dog (or man's) life so I thought I would post this thread. If anyone know more about the procedure and how well it works, let everyone know.

I have heard it works on poisonous spider bites also. We do have them here in Illinois.

I have put this message up on some other boards and got more responses. Some folks swear by it, others are sceptical. I am glad I do not have poisonous snakes where I hunt.

I have had several dogs bit by copperheads around my house, the first time it happened I was out of town, my wife called the vet and he recommended benadryl. It worked great and I've used it every since. My yard dog will kill every copperhead he sees, last summmer he got bit twice on the snout and swelled up bad instantly. I gave him benadryl right away and the swelling went down by the next day. I don't know if it works for rattlesnakes or not, but its great for copperheads.

i carry benadryl in my dog box. and i have a dog get bit, i pump it to him/her. then i call vet and tell what is going on and go from there. young rattlers are the most dangerous round here. they don't know how to control their venom. we have lots of cottonmouths too.
