Do Hounds Have Memory?

http://www.ingramwildlife.com/moonwalk.wmv

Last fall I had Gunner and Goldie over my house loose in the backyard and they treed a cat in the yard. (I can't imagine an animal like that dumb enough to cross my yard when it's full of hounds?) This video is of Gunner doing the Moonwalk on that tree.

Anyway, he is my son's hound out of my red Choco and Rui Li and hadn't been over all winter. He recently arrived for the spring hunt on lions and bears and went over to that same tree and got on the wood, looked all over for that cat and began to open a little--go figure! So do hounds really have a memory like that?

in my opinion they must have a memory otherwise when you train them you would have to train them all over again every day

of coarse they

Do! My dogs start barking at the sound of my truck in the evening before they can even see my truck. They have remembered the sound of it and only raise heck when they hear my truck.

My old dog heck I've had to leave her in the mountains before and when I wake up she's laying in her box...she knows where she gets feed at.

Yes, it is obvious that a hound has memory or how would they ever learn to trail and tree any game. I told that story to an old hounddogger at the coffee shop the other day and he thought it was a cool story, then he told me one.....

The old dogger explained that there were some guys doing well at the field trials every year because they set it up, ran their dogs down the drags and got in some lead time. Then a few years back somebody hunt that coon in a different tree and those guy's hounds all went to the old tree and located on an empty tree and the gig was up.........

This friend was then convinced they had trained those dogs to run head up to the old tree where the goodies were hung and not really using their nose......

Funny story as well........

do hounds have memory

To me Dogs are just like People!!!! They have an active mind. Some are smart, some dumb, some stupid, some mean, some dominant, some docile. They have their language and comunicate. IMO Lots of breeders today are breeding stupid dogs so they can train them to be like a tool instead of a knowlegable companion.

Any one who thinks dogs dont have Memory and can think just needs to be around dogs more.
