Alot of young dogs won't bark a caged coon the first time they see it. It helps to have another dog that the pup is used to that will bark at the coon. Once the pup gets fired up at it you can take the older dog away.
I wouldn't do this more than a couple of times though.
This is definitley true, I almost ruined a dog that way. He barked like crazy when he seen a coon, but didn't know what else to do.
