Diamond EA dog performance question.

I have used this in the past and recently put my dog back on it to get him built back up after a rough winter and hunting season. It "seems" to have jacked him up...kind of like drinking an energy drink....to the point that he has done a couple of unusual things for the dog that he is. He has TONS of energy and that is a good thing. His coat has shine back in it and he has filled back out. On the other side...he faced barked at a dog the other day and that is out of character (the dog he did it with is very easy going and absolutely no trouble at the tree), he backed a dog on a possum caught on the ground(he has been poker straight), when I tried to get him to handle when he got in close to a house he took off on me and that is totally out of character. My question is has anybody else noticed this and how long did it take your dog to settle back down after being on it for awhile. His previous feed was Enhance Hunter's Edge. I have hunted him for the last week every night for a minimum of 3 good drops in hilly rough terrain and hoping the "edge" comes off of him soon. I love the fact that his energy is through the roof, but, I'm thinking I might have to hang his leash out the window and trot him 5 miles before I turn him loose!!

We fed it all last summer to our Kate pup because she definately ran cooler on it. I also fed it to my bitch while she was carrying and nursing her pups and started the pups on it. I think it is one of the best commonly available feeds out there. But I have never noticed any "jacked up" effect or really anything else other than what you would normally expect from a top quality feed. Our dog for sure ran much coolewr in the heat of the summer on EA. That made it worth the price for us.

Jim,
What is the cheapest you can find EA in your area?

I have been feeding EA for over a year now and have yet to really see a drastic energy/out of the ordinary wired 440 dog because of it...Most dogs that I have seen/had are the way you are describing no matter what you feed them....From my experience from switching dogs to this feed is that I get what I expect from a quality feed such as better muscle tone, healthier looking coat, better stool/clean up, and all around a healthier looking hound as well as better stamina generally speaking. But, as far as a dog more lathargic or melow to one that turns hyper/440 like a switch b/c of the feed, I have not seen any evidence of that.

I have not noticed that either. But I did switch back from EA the the diamond naturals chick and rice. My female seems to look better on the naturals. She was getting too lean on the EA and sometimes the stool was runny on the EA. Saves me $10 a bag also.

You guys are nutz...

The biggest thing I see with feeding a better quality feed is the dogs just dont seem to ever get fat on it.....As a result they run cooler and dont get bogged down as quickly after treeing a while.

Well maybe if they only get a cup a day as some say they feed...they might just be trying to catch one to keep from starving! Hunger is a good motivator!

After two months on it,I switched back to Purina Pro Plan Performance.I liked the performance on the EA but one dog would eat it but really didn't like it and they all had stool problems.Wish they would have not had the issues cause its alot cheaper than Pro Plan.

Where are you saving $10 a bag at? I get EA same price as Natuarals I think. If not its only a few dollars difference. I pay $30 for a bag. Check out Haystack on Pio Nono they are cheaper than Tractor Supply.

It is $35 for EA and about every other month they have naturals for $25 at tractor supply.

I'm feeding Native level 4. It is close to the same protein and ingredients as the EA I used to feed. With both feeds you will definatly see a difference in their stamina and their looks. These feeds cost more per bag but I've been keeping track and I'm not feeding as much feed so the out of pocket expense is pretty close to the same.

Pure Ignorance.

I feed 3 cups a day to my adult dogs and they are ANYTHING but starved.

I GUARANTEE you my dog is getting more nutrients and is much healthier than your corn and high carb fed dog.

Good grief...The ignorance and arrogance by the Anti Diamond EA people is insane.

BTW..people dedicated to the health of their dog to the point they research and realize their corn fed dog is anything BUT healthy are usually the guys who hunt their dogs harder and spend more time in the woods than on the internet talking about it.

As for EA making a dog more "jacked up"...utter nonsense.

Re: Diamond EA dog performance question.

I have never fed it, a friend of mine feeds all diamond products and he told me the same thing you are saying when he fed EA. to a male of his.

Oh that pot-gutted puppy you posed with looks like it's corn fed to me. An Ol Roy dog if I ever saw one. Better watch out for rickets! Maybe you should try some EA on yourself. You look like you might be five feet tall and ninety eight or so. "Eat more Chikin"!

I think you might be a used car saleman at the corner car lot in real life or your dad is one. Sure as heck never been close to an animal nutrition research facility! I GUARANTEE that!

I have my doubts about that.

I think a lot of these EA fed dogs are going to live short lives. Triglycerides, cholesterol, too much chicken fat and all you know. Not enough veggies!

The only place I've seen it was at Tractor Supply! $34.99/40# last week. I am not a EA hater. It might be a decent dog food. I just don't feel the need to jump on the band wagon. Some time in the future I might give it a try.

No Guru.....Although I am paid a pretty nice salary to oversee the nutritional needs and performance and feed formulation for around 5 million meat producing animals each week for one of the top 5 companies in the United States in their field.

Maybe I just have enough common sense and 1st grade reading abilities and can read an ingredient list and compare feeds. I can also use my eyes and see how much better my dogs look and act and see the extra $$ left in my wallet by feeding LESS feed over a month's time.
