at 3 weeks I give a Parvo shot. Then I give them another parvo shot between 5 and 6 weeks then 2 rounds of 7 ways.

Had parvo hit here a couple years back, it got 5 litters of pups between, 5 weeks and 12 weeks old. Every pup it killed had 2 , 7-ways in them, except the 5 week olds, and they had 1 round of 7 way in them.

It really woke me up, that the 7 way itself, just aint enough, since i've went to the Parvo shot only approach ,I have not had another problem. Had to lose 30 some odd pups to learn this lesson. Hadnt seen parvo around here since 1986, and up until this happened everything was fine with 2 rounds of 7 ways.

As long as the pups are nursing your wasting the shot if you give one to them. You'd be better off to wait until a week after they have been off of their mom.

Rabies Shot

The big difference between you giving the shot or a Vet. How big is your liability policy?

I know alot of people and vets feel youre wasting the shot, maybe I am? Maybe I'm not! Pretty cheap insurance policy, and If anyone ever gets parvo on there place(And I hope noone does) you will change your status quo or your gonna fight it all the way.

Do i have to give the 5 way and the 7 way or just the 7 way?
The pups will be 6 weeks old in two days, i just wormed them tonight. They are eating their puppy food mixed with water.

VACCINES

Any vaccine at 3 weeks old does no good because the vac. is a live virus and the pup is getting anti-bodies from the bitch"s milk so those anti-bodies will kill the vac and it does no good.

Give a 5-way with corona added at 8 weeks and then in two weeks follow up with 7 way and that is it until they are 6 months old, then at 6 months rabies.

I agree with worming start at two weeks old and worm every week until 6 weeks old and then at 9 weeks.

fort dodge is a good vac.

Give Vaccine 3 days prior to weaning pups, another two weeks later and another two weeks later. Worm every 2 weeks until 12 weeks old starting at 2 weeks old.

This is the requirments of my dog broker to sell my kennel puppies so i use it on my hounds and have NEVER lost a puppy and i raise several a year.

Starting vaccines before 6 weeks is not recomended. Anywhere from 6-8 weeks you can start. Only vaccinate every 3-4 weeks. Any sooner can overload the pups immune system. I have seen people do this and the pups get very sick. Do not give Lepto in the 1st two series of shots. Lepto is the number one risk of allergic reaction, so that is not recomended to be given until the last two in the series. As long as you know how to properly give an injection under the skin, and make sure you keep the vaccines properly stored in the fridge, and make sure you keep track of which pups you have and have not vaccinated, it could be fine. These are potential risks of self vaccinating.
