I can tell you the difference..................
I hunted with a 17 year old kid once that had a pretty good rabbit dog. The only thing that kept him from being "field trial" material was that he was slower than most dogs.
BUT , the kid killed alot of rabbits with him.
Went hunting good and had a pretty good nose.
That dog would run a rabbit around as many times as it took for you to kill the rabbit. He'd just keep plugging along in any kind of weather.
My dog was faster and the kid didn't like my dog leading the race. Said he was gonna shoot him and get a new dog. I told him that'd be a BIG mistake. Not many dogs could run the same rabbit half as long as that dog could.
I don't know why people always have to compete with each other.
I'm not a "trialer" , but I have a friend who likes them. Our dogs run different , but I wouldn't say that either one was "better" than the other. You know why? BECAUSE WE DON'T CARE !
We're friends and that's all that really matters. We run our dogs together and we enjoy it.
I've also got 2 friends that have Bassett hounds that'll pound rabbits pretty good. And they trial also. Both of them have won the Bassett World Championship a time or two.
I've been to a few of their trials and it cracks us up to hear the other guys say that you can't run Bassetts and Beagles together. We do it all the time ! LOL
I think too many people worry about the petty stuff.
In my opinion , if a guy is worried about someone badmouthing his dogs , it's only because he's worried about losing out on some sales.
I don't worry about selling any of my dogs , and I always give my leftover pups away. So , anybody can say whatever they want about my dogs. I just don't care ! LOL
