Its fun to me. I like working a dog. Listening and watching a dog work. I like talking dogs and everything else cooning brings out. I like being out at night running around in the woods. I like talking about cooning with others who enjoy cooning and talking cooning as much as I do!

right there you got it.

+stress relief and exercise, the lil money along the way helps.
never made any money deerhunting, I spend a bit on it and alot of time.. but coonhunting gives back in so many ways.

and its unique and work. so not alot of others are constantly doing it making competition thin. I like that. I ran into one coon hunter in 45 days of the season (so far), 1 hunter and I knew who it was and called him on his cell phone to see who was on the other side of the river, it was him...thankfully.

Coonhunting to Me!

Mostly the fellowship! Hanging with friends, and family, listening to old hunting stories, last night's hunt and hoping for the next big coon dog! But theirs few things like the bond you have with your coon dogs. The EXCITEMENT you get when you cut them loose, they strike, trail, locate, and TREE, and you walk to the tree near or far, shine the tree, and see those TWO BIG YELLOW EYES looking down at ya!!

Well to me rather i hunt with someone or not it's peace and quite besides the hounds. After listen to boss man chirpin in my ear all day then comin home to the daughter and son ready destroy each other lol it's daddy time with his best friend that i can talk to and he has no comment back LOL. It's like when i go to comp hunt i just tell them i'm here for the fun of it not going argue with anyone do enough of that at home and usually after the first 6 minutes of the hunt were all laughing like it's a buddy hunt. It's just relaxing plus you see stuff in the nite sky that you at times makes think wow i'm pimple.

To me coonhunting is all about friendship and fun. You go out there to enjoy your self and get away from the world. And for the fellowship meeting new and interesting people. But mostly to me its about the bond you create with your dog, how you come to trust him and he comes to trust you. One of the best feelings in the world is listening to a coondog you raised and trained doing what he loves best

It can be a stressful way to relax........It can be peaceful or it can make you talk to yourself, and want to quit right after you shoot your dogs. You can make a lot of friends until your hounds start doing better than theirs, or someone lies to you about a dog, or accuses you of lying about a dog. You could make a little money if it wasn't for high priced dog feed, vet bills, having a dog to die or get stolen once in a while, tracking equipment, shocking equipment, medication (for you and the dogs), dog boxes, four wheel drive trucks, lights, collars, kennels, clothes, boots, guns, and last but not least...dogs. It can be relaxing until the dogs start barking at night, waking up the neighbors, and you have to go out at 3:00 am to make them shut up: Or you have to get up early the next morning and you can't get the dogs to come in. It's almost like they don't care that you have a hard day ahead of you, and you need a little sleep.

Overall, it is an ADDICTION, and I'm not sure there is a cure. You either love it, or hate it. Not too many "Middle of the Road" coonhunters. You don't have to be crazy to do it.......but it helps.

It's the sound of the hounds, the race, the locate and getting to the tree and seeing those two big eyes glowing in your light.

90% if the time its a frustrating pain in the neck. 10% of the time its the best feeling on earth. Most of us are lucky to have short memories and the inability to learn.

To me it is all about the dogs. I really enjoy taking a pup and making it a finished dog. Once it is trained I want another pup to work with.

I grew up in the outdoors, and hunting my whole life. I have been training dogs of many beeds since I was 17. When I found this sport, it was a perfect match for me. I love that I can choose to just go out and relax with the dogs, or get down to buisness in a competition, and breeding better dogs.

Just an addiction i cant seem to be happy without, but for me it is 10% hunting and 90% about the dogs. Ever find yourself standing out in the yard at night looking back toward the timber and listening for a dog when you know darn well they are in the kennel? LOL.

Just gets in the blood i guess but their is nothin finer than hearing a hound get struck off in the distance on a quiet night.
