Hunting around the Grand American?

I was just curious what the hunting is like in south carolina. Are coon thick or thin or both. Is it rough, swamps? Clear cuts? Debating coming out to the grand american just curious on what its like!!

Thanks a lot!

Some swamps are hard and some are soft bottom. Most timber company land is briar patches. Then again you got places easier to hunt than Central Park in NYC. Killed 8 by myself tonight and quit at 11 , then saw 20 more. But that's me, not average.

if you can get a guide to the islands you are in heavan when the tide is up. it's a natural coon pen. them coons can't go anywhere. but when that tide is down. it's rough on dogs that haven't hunted on the island all the time. other than that . mostly swamp bottoms good populations. hell it has to be look at what scores are brought in right? i have just not figured out how for the past two years there has been another registry hunt 45 minutes down the interstate from there. and they have hunted around 100 dogs a night the past two years. and i have yet to see a score over 700 but at the grand american it's nothing. makes a man wonder. haha

Well it depends on where your guide is going to take you! You may drive to savannah GA there is no telling but you better bring you some hip boots! Coons are from thick to thin depending on location. Hope this helps! You just never know! It's just a gamble.

First time at GA I went with some buddies who entered the hunt and my friend told the judge his dog would do some digging at the tree. Judge just said she won't tonight. Friend laughed and said why not? Judge said if she does she'll drown. Wherever they went they hunted out of a john boat all night in either swimming or lunging water. She tried hard but it flat wore her out not being used to it. Luck of the draw. Jerry Lee was the judge and they did see coon.

It's actually a great hunt to attend. Has a little different feel to it and lots to see. If the weather is good it's great to get out of the cold for a weekend.

You can hunt just about every type of terrain imaginable somewhere here in SC. Coon population varies a good bit too. I wouldn't count on it being too warm...the past three years have been FRIGID. At least to a Carolina girl anyway. Of course some of you guys from up north may still think it's "warm!" LOL.

LOL!

If you draw out around Saluda, you just might hear that!

Least you don't have to worry about the snakes, just watch out for the gators......
