Dog's vacation

The dogs and me are taking a week long vacation starting tonight.

Anyone else take some time off during deer gun season?

Greg,

Michigan has more deer hunters than many other states. You have to see Michigan's woods and the massive Blaze Orange Brigade to believe it.

I think recent estimates are well over 1/2 million hunters on the way to 3/4 million deer hunters this year.

There is hardly a pull-off on state land that doesn't have someone camping there right now.

NOW I UNDERSTAND. WE HAVE ALOT OF DEERHUNTERS BUT CAMPING IS NOT ALLOWED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE STATE PARK CAMPGROUNDS WILL FILL UP NEXT WEEKEND HERE AND THEN THE OPENING WEEKEND FOLKS WILL BE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN.

I'm not sure if you can coonhunt during the regular gun season or not, but you should get your head examined if you do. That's the way it is around here anyway. I would never consider going.

WE CAN COONHUNT HERE 365 NIGHTS A YEAR. WHY WOULD YOU NOT GO DURING DEER SEASON? ARE THEY HUNTING THEM IN THE DARK? OR IS THERE TO MUCH AMMO IN THE AREA? MOST OF US COONHUNTERS DO NEED OUR HEADS EXAMINED!

I dont cut the goat hunters any slack. I hunt ten months a year. We have to take off March and April for the deer to calve. Other than that we are open to dogs year round with no limits on coon.

Down here we keep hunting of else you would have to quit. Out gun season starts in early Oct. and goes to Jan. 1st.

If we lose a dog most deer hunters are great about getting them back to you.

We have a few coonhunters around hear won't hunt during Deer Horn season because they don't have or own any land to hunt on. And have very few places to hunt with permission. And they are afraid of the confrontation's they could get into.

It's 8:00pm now season opens in 4 hrs and deer season been on for two days I'm coonhunting till daylight.

the deer hunters don't slow me down in anyway. i hunt squirrels during the day or coons at night. during the day i hook up with deer hounds pretty often but i don't mind that much. they are just wore out, tired, lonely and looking for a friend. most of the deer hunters hunt with hounds and the people stay in the road. once in a while i'll find a man in a tree but never had a problem. i worry more during night hunting. when people are leaving the woods they race to get to the bar and drink before going home. they seem to think they are the only people or dogs in the woods.

You're right we do need our head examined, but there are so many people that come out of the wood work to gun hunt for deer that would not be a good idea to cut the dogs loose during gun season what so ever. If the wrong person heard them treed, they would be dead. Some people are very fussy about their deer hunting.
