Im 19yrs old and im currently workin 35+hrs a week at a local grocery store but im determined to find a better job or hopefully a career to venture into. What are some good, outdoor, preferably farm work or wildlife work that I might be able to look into doing that wont require much college education or none at all? Just trying to see what all sorts of jobs are out there that I might enjoy. Thanks to anyone that posts any input!!!

Why no college education?? College is the smartest thing you could do for you future!!! Go to a tech. school, or what about a wildlife school?? Sure the next two years of your life will be hectic and you will have little time to hunt but is that not worth having a good job and the next 60 years or whatever to do whatever you want??? Think about it!!

GO TO SCHOOL AND GET A BETTER EDUCATION AND JOBS. SOMETHING TO FALL BACK ON. MY BROTHER WENT INTO FORESTRY. HIS HUNTING WAS LIMITED WHILE GOING TO SCHOOL. WELL HE LIVES IN IDAHO. HAS A NICE PIECE OF GROUND. NICE WIFE AND KID. SEVERAL HORSES. THREE PICKUPS. HAS HAD SEVERAL DAM GOOD JOBS WITH PRIVATE TIMBER COMPANIES. USUALLY TAKES OFF THREE TO FOUR WEEKS A YEAR IN THE FALL TO HUNT DEER, ELK, MOOSE. SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING HE WANTS. HIS MONEY IS GREAT AND HE BUYS ANYTHING HE WANTS WHEN HE WANTS. MONEY HAS NEVER BEEN A QUESTION. I WISH I HAD DONE IT. I HAVE GOOD JOB, BUT NOT EVEN CLOSE TO HIS.

i was a hunting guide in montana idaho colorado and south dakota..you can go to guide school in 12 weeks and it is reasonable for price...get an immediate job and most will pay around 100 a day plus tips..

I have a friend who just moved towards sylva/clyde area to do the wildlife management classes at the community college up there. (I think its wildlife management im not sure exactly what it is but i know it has to do with wildlife) He comes home everynow and then and says he's loving it up there. Plus, there are people up that way that coonhunt so its not like you would have to give that up. There's also gamelands up that way so you could still hunt even if you didnt know any places to take the dogs. Christy and Quincy Clayton live up that way and the stories theyve told me about the hunting up there, kinda makes me wanna move that way LOL. I'll find out next time I see my friend and let you know exactly what classes he's taking and where.

You said that you're interested in farm work so here's my 2 cents. There are some jobs either on or dealing with dairy operations such as nutritional work, artificial insemination, herd manager and more. I'm a hoof trimmer for cows and couldn't be happier. Whatever it is that you choose be in it because you love to do it.

I personally grew up on a tobacco farm, doing hard physical labor. Went to a tech school, got out at a bad time. Was supposed to work for dow corning, they paid for my school, but graduated in december of 2001 after 9/11. They went into a hiring freeze. I decided to start a lawn and landscape business. Love it. Now I do it and raise tobacco cause I still like to farm. The lawn business is hard work to, but I'm outside.
Not that what I do, or did is important to u, but what is important is that I don't think I could have made this business a success with the tech school. I ended up with a associates degree.
Higher education is something you will have with you for life. No one can take it away, if u use it fine, if not u have it to fall back on.
This is only my opinion. Whatever u do if you do it with 100% you will be fine.

From my point of view im 31 married with 4 kids i have a ged and thats all. I work my ass off every day doing Landscapeing. My pay sucks. Friend its hard out there in the real world theres not many jobs that pay very well i constantly struggle to make ends meet and keep food on the table. I love my wife and kids and i wouldnt take anything for them but my biggest regret in life is that i didnt go on to college to better my self.With out a better education youll probaly get stuck at some dead end job breakin your back to put food on the table while your boss gets richer an richer i hope this scares the crap out of you and opens your eyes.Go to college some how some way better your self or you might just end up regreting it one day.Buddy i wish you the best of luck in your life always remember do your best work hard and pray have faith.Good Luck ill keep you in my prayers

At the least go to a tech school and learn a trade. I do electrical and heating/air conditioning work and if you want to be outside year round heating/air conditioning will keep YOU cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Learn all that you can because thats the one thing NOBODY CAN TAKE FROM YOU.

Join the United States Air Force. It is a remarkable career choice and I am happy that I made it 11 years ago. I never thought I would be able to do the things that I have done in that time. You won't be a millionaire but for not having any college I make more than some of my high school buddies with Master Degrees and higher. Take a Heating & Air course at a trade school its hard work but excellent pay then work your way up to your company my wifes uncle did it now he sold his business and is retired at 49 years old.But you have to be dedicated and do first class work .

i work for a farmer now, who will probably be my father in law in a year or so.

If i ever change i will be going into an apprenticeship to be a Journeyman LIneman or JOurney electrician

Boy if I was 19 and had it all to figure out again...!

I just turned 31 and have worked as a firefighter for the Forest Service for nearly 10 years. Its about as outdoors as you can get, the pay isn't too bad, benifits are good, employment is stable, there is room to advance but no pressure to do so, and you get to work with good people in wonderful places. I've been on fires in every state form Colorado to the Pacific, Canada to Mexico. Camped in the Sawtooth Range in Idaho, seen the sunset on the Oregon coast, wandered through the high desert country in Utah...

College helps but isn't an absolute for a technician in the Forest Service. Having been in the military helps you get hired (there's a bonus point system for vets). Lots of temporary/ term work you can do to decide if you like it before you hire on full time. I know college is the popular idea and a great way to get to a career you want. I highly recomend searching your soul and find what it is you really want to accomplish in your life. My biggest issue with college is they make it sound all great and grand like there is a pot of gold at the end just waiting for you as you walk across the stage and get your degree. In most cases you have a pile of debt and have no idea where to turn to get employment!

I learned this the hard and I'm still paying off my loans and have bounced around job to job until last year. I didn't even finish and get my degree and still have a large enough debt to take a good chunk of change from me for the next 10-15 years.

Last year while being laid off from what I thought was a great Electrition job. 3 years of apprenticeship and plenty more time wasted on other dead end jobs I found a listing for a job doing nuisance wildlife control. Finding that was a great stride in my life. I plan on doing this and possibly for the same company for the rest of my life.

The best thing I can say is do what ever feels right to you. Whether that's college or trying to join the wounded workforce of this great nation.

A job that seemed interesting to me was "dent pulling". After a deer nailed my Silverado I took it to the local dealer [with an appointment]. This young man pulls out a collection of tools and starts basically pushing the dent out from the back side. It was slow somewhat tedious work- he kind of massaged the steel back into it's shape. I talked with him over the hour and a half that it took him to do the job. He said he went to a 6 week program and when he was done had all of his tools provided with his school tuition. He mostly works outside- either in parking lots of dealers, or in folks driveways, or yards. He can work inside in bad weather but preferred to work out doors. The work was kind of "zen" like- not real hard, kind of relaxing and allowed him time to think about life, or turn some tunes on and turn his mind off. Anyhow, he said the pay was decent, he could pickup a fair number of side jobs, work was safe and clean, and he had a minimal investment.
Not really the kind of outdoor, farmy type of work that you might have been thinking of, but get a good line of work and enjoy the woods on your off time.

The guys that are talking military are your best bet....... You can join the Army National Guard and have all the same benefits as regular army.......... You can get up to a $20,000 sign on bonus for certain MOS's (Military Ocupational Specialty) you dont get that in the regular army. you get to choose the job you want that you are qualified for determined by the ASVAB test. you dont get to choose your job in the regular army either. Then you go to BCT (Basic Combat Training) which is a blast, you get to do stuff most people dont..... then you go to AIT (Advanced Individual Training) where you learn how to do your job which can be turned into college credits. you get a place to live, three square meals a day, and a paycheck. Then you come home and you get to play army one weekend a month and two weeks in the summer which you get paid for. And the G.I. Bill That pays for your college or technical school or for your spouse to go to school. Heck if your married and/or have kids they will pay for part or most of your rent. you never have to pay another medical bill, you can retire in 20 years and still have half your life ahead of you and a retirement check!!!! Plus the satisfaction of being part of the worlds most elite fighting force. And just to toss it out there less than 1% of Americans Choose to serve their country in the united states Armed Forces HOOAH!!!!!!!!!! I wish i had done it when i was your age instead of waitin till the ripe old age of 21..... its somethin to think about for sure

hey, just go to school....i'm 19 man and dis-liked school very much,
But since i started colege it's not so bad, plenty of free time, i have a way of going where i dont have to work full time to go, my parents are paying for every class i get an A in so it works out. The classes are much easier then highschool. basicly more freedom. As long as u can stay on task you'll be fine,they teach you how to study and many other usefull skills, really though, if i can go to college anyone can. If your financial situation isent stable join the military and let them pay for your schooling.good luck in what ever you decide to do.
