To have the nose of a dog

Has anyone besides me ever wondered what it would be like to smell what your dog smells? I don't think we can imagine how full of smells our dog's world really is. It would probably freak us out not having been born that way and all of a sudden being able to smell sooo much. Can you imaigne how back a skunk or pile of crap would be to us. I mean it's already bad and if you smelled it thousands of times stronger....

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be smelling peoples' butts and crotches and eating crap like they do. How can they stand it?!

i've wondered that same thing many times. i figure it would give most of us "sensory overload". i doubt we could stand it. it seems dogs don't have the sense of what is a "good" or "bad" smell either.

Im pretty sure a dogs scense of smell works so much differently than ours that its impossible for us to even comprehend.

have you ever seen a bird dog with one in its mouth stop and piont out another bird? How does that work?

Yep think about tasteing a brownie and being able to tell what the recipe is. Then think about being able to seperate what the chemicals is in the flower, sugar and everything else and break it all down. Being able to tell the health of everyone around you. We are around something for a while and we can't smell it any more. They don't get scent deaf like we do. They just keep on smelling. Yep I have thought about it a lot.

Maybe he is smelling the beef he wants to eat from the cattle that will be fed from the corn that will be grown from the fertilizer that will be made from the chicken litter that smells all stanky right now. It will make your brain hurt. LOL

You guys are geniuses! HAHA! I love that there are people out there that actually think like me (even though that scares me a little bit). I agree that we would definitely experience sensory overload and that it is very different than what we can understand. Capt, sometimes I got to wonder how smart are these dogs always wanting to sniff crotches. I sure don't want to sniff yours!!

The bird in the mouth and point another one is amazing. I also saw one of my coon dogs come across a skunk while trailing, got sprayed in the face and only missed about two barks, trailed another 250 yds and treed. How could she keep on the coon trail with that stench in her nose?! Amazing!

They use to tell us kids the reason dogs were always sniffing others behinds was to see who stole the gingercake.

Seriously I have read that they can tell all kinds of things from the markings of animals , age, sex, physical condition.

What it ate last, what it's eating next, which direction it went, where it was born, what it was wearing, blood type, driver's license number, whether it likes to play golf, if it was singing when it passed by that way, if it was big enough to kick his butt, how much education they've had, if they go to church, where they work, etc.

Just messing around with ya blue. It really is amazing all the info they can get just from a whiff!

I was watching a documentary the other day that claimed that pigs have a greater sense of smell than a bloodhound. I thought that was amazing to say the least. Jeff do you think you could teach a pig to tree and run track? I know if you can teach a dog to catch 'Yeti' you probably can teach an animal anything. I can see the UKC Boards now.... Jeff Weaver wins World Championship with a 2 year old Russian Boar named Arnold. My reply post would be and I qoute....'U B DA MAN!!!!'

Hester...Where you been!? I've reaaly been missing your nonsense, I mean ingenius comments on here lately!

As far as the pig thing...that would never work. Pigs are the only thing in the whole wide world I'm scared of...after that whole incident with grandma losing her thumb to one and me getting trampled....well never mind. I just don't think it's a good idea for me. But go for it if you want to! You'll find the fame you've been looking for. I just won't be able to hunt with you.

Well, I don't know why, but apparently my jobsite smells to dogs like a doggie toilet. When I got to work today there were about 8 piles of dog crap around the basement I'm building. I may not have the nose of a dog, but I could sure smell that!!

And to think that some dogs would want to eat that stuff....
