GPS Users and Hunters Help

Have you ever lost a Collar off a dog? How does it act when you track it? My friend and I were hunting and believe his dog either lost the collar off it or was stolen and the collar left by the road. We have not been able to find it. it goes from 20 to 30 yds, then to near but cant find it. Any Ideas?

Had one do the same thing a few months back.....got close to the collar and it bounced from near to 30 yards for a long time......got very fortunate and finally found the collar but the system is not accurate when a deal like that happens......All I know to do is get close to the collar and look all around for it.....once NEAR pops up you might as well put the handheld up because its not gonna help you pinpoint the collar.

if you don't see it when it says near it is most likely under something, under water, in a culvert, ect.

Never ask a man what kind of dog he has. If he has a hound he'll tell you, if he does not, you don't want to shame him by asking.

GO to the map page and zoom in as far as possible until you are facing the direction of the collar. Put the handheld away and start searching!

Thanks for the help, found him, he had got hit and crawled up next to a fence in some weeds and died. We tried but just couldnt get there fast enough. He was my hunting friend Jimmy Ballards hound and his best friend, been a real cooner and best of natured dog his whole life.

You can teach a dog to go find another in that situation in a few minutes if you know how. I was just going to sugest haveing another dog find that one.

Thanks Fellows, I had hunted with him since he was a Puppy, he was the kind of dog you want your hunting partner to have. Good Handling, Strait as an Arrow, Acurate as Any, and Had A Great Disposition. You know how you have several hunting partners and like them all but with most of them you really dont care for there dog much, well it was always a Pleasure cutting my dogs loose with Ole Twister.

Just a note, on the way to turn loose we were discussing people on here talking about how Garmins were ruining peoples hunting skills, they watch the screen too much, I got to feeling guilty and wasnt watching the screen, when I turned it on they were 200 yards from a road, We didnt have time to drive around and head them off, we were no more than 5 minutes to late.

thanks guys its a hard thing to do when you have to bury a good hound. twister was only 4 years old it will be hard to replace him. I have a 8 month old bluetick male ready to start. Chiggers garmin showed him within 10 yards . Stood within 2 or 3 feet from twister three or four times before I spotted him jimmy ballard

First time since they came out that dog had been turned loose without a Flashing Light , I told him to put my Garmin Collar on him, he has a beep beep and has the Flasher on it. I guess when something is going to happen, its just going to happen.

It actually is not ruining peoples hunting skills..Its saving dogs lifes..If I cut loose any where near a rd..I'm looking to see which way they are headed..Sorry to hear about the dog getting hit!
