Yadkin River Bear Dog

I just aquired a two year old male out of yadkin river curt that had been hunted on coons. I strictly hunt bear and have had this dog on four bear in the last two weeks. This dog runs strong and trees very well. Seems to like a bear. I have only had him on one bayed bear that was not rough at all. I don't know much about curt, but was just wondering if anyone had bear hunted any of his pups and how they stick.

Thanks,
Eric Roberson

I had a female out of Jim's Champ dog.
Ran her on bear and coon.
On bear she wouldn't cold-trail , but would go with the others till they got it jumped. Then it was as if you turned loose a buzzsaw!
She was only 50 lbs , but fought like she was 150.
Took a few stitches over the years , but wasn't crazy gritty. It only happened 3 times. She only seemed to get caught after somebody got there. Gave her just enough "extra" courage that it would get her into trouble.
Got it by 1 bad bear that wouldn't climb. (nobody was there on that one)
The other 2 were smaller bear that bailed while we were there taking pictures.
She did her share putting bears in the trees though.
One of the best coondogs I ever seen also. And , believe me , I've seen some good ones.
Wish I had 10 more just like her.

Bob it's great to hear about dogs like that. I tell you when you talk to jim he will tell you quick that champ caught more coons on the ground then he treed he also passed that track driving speed on which is why I try to get yadkin river dogs with as much champ in there ped as possible. Petes studd dogs geoff that sandy branch is talking about is a grand pup of champ. I believe this is part of were he has his track driving ability. If only champ would have been promoted like his brother yadkin tar ratler then maybe we would see him in about ever walkers papers instead of ratler.

Anyways good story.

I agree.
Nothing against Jim , but if Champ would have been promoted more , there would be alot more people hunting Yadkin River dogs.
But , I don't blame Jim because I didn't promote my female. I don't care to mess with most people either ! LOL
I don't comp hunt , but I know what it takes to win. Plus points with no minus. She would rack them up with VERY few mistakes.
Some folks say they sell a dog so someone can promote him like he should be.
I would have never sold her , so I can understand why Jim wouldn't sell him either.
The only thing I can blame Jim for was that I had sent him a letter about breeding her to Chico and he never answered it. I think it would have made an awesome cross.
Did I mention I don't like to mess with people? LOL
Never bothered him again.

Eric - If he's out of Jims dogs , I'd say keep him around for a little bit. You'll probably be pretty happy with him overall.
