HTX question

Starting to get some clubs around doing them, my question is one of the rules states one is not allowed to judge a regular hunting partners dog, but what is considered a regular hunting partner? 50% of the time or 20%, what or how would this be dteremined? We really need a guideline as to what is right or fair. Thanks

Tough question and one that I can't give you a percentage to use as a determining factor. We are very well aware that in most clubs, you have probably hunted with all of the members at one time or another. Maybe you drew them in a hunt, maybe you went and tried out a dog they had for sale, or maybe you were hunting with a mutual friend to you both. The rule simply states that you can't have anyone inspect your dog who you regularly hunt with.

Look at it this way, if you hunt with four guys primarily and you hunt with Joe 50% of the time, Pete 30% of the time and Jack and Bill each 10 % of the time, then I don't think any of the four should be evaluating your dog at a hunt test. There has to be plenty of people in the area that you don't hunt with on a consistent basis even though you may be well aquainted with them?

The reason for the rule is simply to protect the integrity of the program. If you are wondering whether or not a person should be evaluating your dog, chances are he / she probably shouldn't be. You have to do the best you can at pairing people up when you host a hunt test.

Good luck though! I've had quite a few calls about the Hunt Test Program this week. Everyone I talk to that is participating in them is liking it!

kind of clear it up, we had our first one with 5 dogs attending and it was fun and very pleasureable, all 5 passed which kind of suprised me but I know they were done the right way. Even had Bert Oney judge a dog and he enjoyed it. I heard alot of comments that guys liked these rather than the hustle and bustle of a real comp. hunt! Hope to see more show up in the future.
