How long after puppies do you wait to hunt your females?

I have three female that just weined puppies. One about 3 weeks ago, one about 2 weeks ago, and one about a week and a half ago. I am ready to get them back in the woods and just wondering if that was a long enough wait to hunt them. I am sure the female that is 3 weeks is fine to hunt but just courious about the other two. Thanks

Lum

Just use common sense, wait for them to dry up and start back easy. I hunted a female one time before she was dried up good thinking that a little bit of execise would help her along and she ripped her bag on something sharp(stick or fence) and ended up getting stitches. I was young and it scared me enough I have always waited till they were dried up good. Go slow and make the drops short for awhile and good luck.

How was Oaks?

Doug is 100% correct...

Also you need to wait until she is not draining anymore, as some male will think that she is in heat and try to bother her.

Also, believe it or not, but females will smell like the fresh blood after giving birth, for quite some time, and sometimes coyotes can smell that and try to find the dog.

Just be cautious, and careful!!!

a while after...

let bag dry up. and wait till drainage stops. also...consider this...the female has a healing process to do go through and you can make the uterus bleed, again, if you push her too hard! just some past experience.

Thanks yall

I have not raised puppies in a while so I have about fogotten how long to wait.

Doug Autumn Oaks was pretty fun. I set up behind Bob on Friday but I kind of got the feeling I was crowding them so I moved on Saturday. Didn't sell not one puppy though. I have talked to several people that were in the same boat. The only puppies I saw moving was Booticks and Black & Tans. But oh well. It was a long drive with a pregnant woman that was for sure. I had to stop ever two hours for a restroom break and to walk around. I was not used to that. I normally get in the truck and drive until I run out of gas.

Drying Up Females

You might consider getting some campher oil to put on your female's tits to aid and speed up the drying up process. You can probably find a product called camphophonique at a drugstore. The previous advise is the responsible thing to do.

Hey Lum

Wasn't sure if you got to Oaks or not, in fact I wasn't sure if Bob was going either. I see he has a few dogs for sale on the PKC site.

Hope Heather is doing OK, I remember well stopping for breaks when my wife was pregnant, I loved it was so exciting and memories to talk about in the future. Sorry you didn't sell any pups. Did you get a chance to breed Elmo before you lost him?

Lindsay is due in about a week, Bob said she was as big as a house. Kyle and I are driving down to get our pup in October.

Take good care of your wife hope she enjoyed being at Oaks. And don't forget to pamper her now!
