If you support the pilot program or just hound hunting but are unable to make the meeting I have taken the time to write and email a letter and let the Game Commission know my support for the program, it is clear, concise, polite and to the point. If you would like to show your support but can't make the meeting I encourage you to copy and paste what I have written and email it to the Game Commission. Feel free to add to it if you wish but please please keep it to the point and polite. We need all the support we can muster to continue this program. To whom it may concern,
My name is XXXX XXXXX and I am writing this letter supporting the use of hounds as an effective conservation tool. The use of hounds to hunt cougar allows the hunter the ability to be more selective
In which sex of animal he/ she is taking, the size of the animal he/ she is taking, the age of the animal he/ she is taking, and whether or not he/ she wants to take that animal at all, clearly these examples show a more precise method in which to more effectively manage cougar populations. Your average non-hound hunter will typically purchase a cougar tag in addition to the various deer, elk, and bear packages that Washington offers in the hopes that if he/ she sees a cougar they can take the shot. When the non-hound hunter is presented with the opportunity to shoot at a cougar, more often than not the shot will be taken from a distance to great to effectively judge the animal,( is it female?, is she pregnant?, does she have kittens?, is it a young cat versus and older cat?) and possibly injure the animal causing unnecessary suffering, as you can see by using hounds as a conservation tool a lot of these questions are eliminated thereby creating a more successful management program. I strongly encourage your continued support of the Cougar Pilot Program.
