just wondering how long would most guys give someone if they was selling a hound or hounds that was going to be out on trial wouldnt a week be a good length of time

I'd want 2 weeks myself.
I'd keep the dog in the kennel the first week just to get to know me.
Then I'd hunt it the 2nd week.

The trial ends when the dog pulls out of my yard. I've sold a few dogs, tell exactly what they do, and dont trial. The buyer is welcome to come and hunt with the dog as much as he wants, with me. I cant control the buyers, training or hunting abilities, his dogs, or mean dogs, etc. I learned many years ago, a friend of mine, trialed a dog, the guy hunted it for three weeks, brought it back, died two days later, we figured it got hit by a car or bear. Besides, a dog takes at least a month, to hunt good for its new owner, and six before they bond. If a man doesnt believe what i describe my dog as, then he needs to go somewhere else, dont waste my time, I have plenty wanting them, when they come up for sale, oh, and the ones I have sold, I have never asked to have one returned, lets be honest, when we sell them. LOL.

they can come hunt with me if they want to buy one. Let a man have one on trial used her half of cat season with a bunch of excuses, found out used her to get his pup started. then brought her back and said he counldn't afford her.Never again

if your going to give trial makeup paper work that protects the buyer and seller signed by you him and witness you each get a copy when its all in black and white there isnt much room for he said she said. makes both of you feel alot betterabout the whole deal. seller should hold the money. but they are right best way is to see a dog work with owner

i dont sell a lot of dogs, but the ones i do are not cull dogs. i give 2 week trial with money in hand. a trial paper is written and signed by both parties. me and the buyer. if at the end of 2 weeks they do not like the dog they get their cash or uncashed check back. some dogs do not hunt for some people and i feel that even if someone comes to hunt with the dog here, the dog is with his/her own pack. i fell the dog needs to be out of his familiar home and with his ner owner to really see if its going to work.
