17 volt light problems

I have an 8 year old Bandit 17 volt box light. While hunting it will go off and only work on high. I thought it was the switch so I got a new one and put it in. It still does it. Switch is so hot you can't touch it. Why would it do that.

Thanks. Might be time for a new light
