No those are fridays results, the dual champions and the pairs. We are looking for saturdays results - an event that took place long before the hunt results that were so hastily posted. Still trying to find out the overall winners, the ch male and female, the grand male and female.

I showed in the CH walker male class at the Oaks. There were 12 to 15 walkers and the judge picked the winner in less than 3 minutes. The handler of the dog that won, hit his dog in front of the judge and still won???? My dog would not stand still but there was alot of good looking walkers there! This same judge took a good 10 minutes to judge 3 plotts. I will not show there again!I don't have the money to buy a win. Bruce Brown

AO benchshow

I didn't go to AO because it is SUCH a long drive & gas prices are ridiculous. I have some very good looking dogs, but I'm not famous or well known so figured I'd just get lost in the shuffle as just one of many putting dogs on benches. I went to AO a couple of years ago & showed a couple of dogs. I felt very out of place amongst all the big name people there. If I ever go again I'll try to make the trip with a friend so I'll have someone to talk to other than my dogs.

AO benchshow - skyblu

Skyblu,
The same is true here - it was a long ride (16+hrs one way) and the gas prices were higher than I have ever seen! This was our family vacation for this year so, I guess looking at it that way, was a bit easier to swallow those high prices whenever we stopped for a fill up.

Don't let not being famous or well known stop you from showing your dogs at an event like AO. It is a great experience to go.

Although everyone likes to win, at an event that large, we have to remember, more people are going to walk away without a win compared to those that do get a win. I consider it a good day when I can put my dogs on the bench and have a judge take a serious look at my dogs (and in one case, several serious looks at one of my dogs). Sure, walking away with a win is great, but I consider it a personal win knowing my dogs can stand up with the well known names and hold their own when being judged. As long as my dogs stand well and earn that second look, I consider it a good day. Same holds true for any event - as long as my dogs have done their best job, I am happy - win or lose
(Now having said that, I will admit one of my dogs did not do the best. She was quite intimidated at the noise in the arena and completely fell apart while on the bench. But, I will chalk that up to being good exposure for her come the next time. It was a learning experience that apparently she needed.)

Meeting and talking with the people we have formed friendships with over the past few years makes attending these events worthwhile. We have met some wonderful people. Some have formed into long lasting friendships - and we feel very lucky to have such good friends.

Winning at AO is not easy

To win at AO first time there is pure luck .Every one that brings their dog there believes they have a chance. The person behind the dog does make a differance because they Know how to win and have and Idea what a dog should look like to win.You might have the one of the best put together dog around but if you do not present him well you will not win at that class of dogs to many good ones. Then their are many other thing that will influence the show after you observe a while you understand. But you truely have a great one you will win eventualy. But first learn what it takes to win and remember you won't win always and you have to take your lumps once in a while. But if you loose to much you have to build better. But you are right it is expencive to go all that way and loose but thats why they have alot of things to look at and check out or hunt. Don't give up learn how to win.!!

congratulations...

to you, rick, as breeder of "honest abe"..you must be proud!! i was tickled to death on winning dual english class with gr ch, nite ch cedar ridge rex..owned by jeff and bred by jay thomas. we were all real excited over this!! sometimes i go and watch and sometimes, i handle for other's. most of the time it is fun and sometimes it has "it's moments"..lol!! the raper building was really comfortable with the a.c. till somebody decided? to open the doors??!! english friends had excellent response to their breeders showcase display and we all hope to return next year. i don't let "politics" bother me and just shrug it off..consider the source is my way of thinking. always another event somewhere down the road...as for the "pro handlers"...lol! take their hounds away..give them something strange..and watch them fall apart!! rofl!! you'd be amazed..lol!! forbid that they had to raise and train and handle their own...and if some hound didn't have that "big name handler" or "owner"...would it win? or better still...would you really even want to breed to it? or feed it? or even hunt it? ask yourself these questions before making any rash decisions on any winner of the day...

woohoo Laura!

you said a mouth full, girl, & its all soooo true. I have 2 young hopefuls here right now that I bred. Finishing one of those to CH or GRCH is gonna be a big day for me. Anyone can buy a dog & show it, but to me, the proof is in the puddin' & a good breeder or handler or whatever, breeds their own. Also like what you said about putting another dog in those handlers hands & watch em fall apart. True, so true! My blue female English dog, Autumn is just as good as the ones winning. Why isn't she in the books & stuff, well cuz I don't have the money to campaign her, thats why. Money talks, sorry to say, course so does sucking up to the judge, which I know alot of those guys do too. Sorry, but if my dog can't win for what it is, then the heck with it, that crap ain't worth my time. Thats why I quit the all breed AKC shows, no name handlers or owners, just don't win. Nother thing I find amusing? A handler will have 60-70 dogs at home & only ever take their 'winners' to the shows, why not show em all? Why keep em if they don't cut it? Also, just love to read the CH lists in CB every month & see who is finishing dogs they bred or dogs they bought, hehe, proof is in the puddin'.
