ukc state hunt, how far would you be willing to drive

jsut curious at a ukc state hunt, if you had a chance to draw out at a place that had a legit chance at first place, how far would you be willing to drive to that hunting spot? and if the guide was willing to do all the driving in his truck would that make a difference? alternative would be you stand a good chance of hunting national forest land with low conn populations

Rance are you refering to the Georgia State Hunt? If so, its in Swainsboro Ga this year, and i don't think much National Forest lands will be used, if any. I could be wrong. Now, as far the drive, if you are talking about the Atlanta area from Swainsboro, you'll never make it back by deadline. my opinion only. I seroiusly doubt that the MOH is going to allow that kind of drive anyway.

no wasnt talking about ga state hunt, just trying to get a guage in general. what is the point where regardless of how good the hunting might be, it jsut isnt worth driving that far.

i see...my limmit is around 100 miles. thats far enough, and you can make it back by deadline from there, on bigger hunts. locals, with earlier deadlines, 60 - 70 miles is about it, and that would be pushing it. of course..all just my opinion

our florida state hunt is about 80 miles from my hunting ground. probally would take you hour and half, hour and forty minutes to get there due to not on interstate. you would be in coons and stand a chance of winning it all. never have guided there from this club becuase for local hunt just too far, but got to wondering about the state hunt. if you dont get on a couple of certain casts for this area you dont stand much of the chance and a decent number of casts will go to natl forest where msot casts come back with no plus points

distance

rance, i believe it is tied to dog power. if you are hunting a dog that you KNOW can win any hunt you put it in, then you drive as far as you need to to get the job done. if you are hunting a dog that you HOPE will win then your distance is limited to the time and money you are willing to expend on hope.

I think 80-100 miles for a state hunt would be alright.

Another thing I'd take into consideration is, is it back toward home for me in case I don't win?

I probably won`t be there anyways because of the PKC State hunt added, but if I do decide to come over there I sure don`t want to drive over 50 miles max for a UKC State hunt. Just my opinion though. What Class you hunting in?

chris, i am not sure. ive been hunting a registered dog recently, but the dog power just hasnt been there to my liking so i dont know what im going to hunt. thinking about breaking out one the other dogs i know i can stand a good chance to win with. i hear ya on the not driving more than 50 miles, thats kind of how i always been. just get tired of heading to osceola natl forest, especially when other casts are hunting feeder buckets.

on a side, why as a state can we not get on the same page as coonhunters. as few as clubs as we have, i think its absurd that the florida pkc and ukc state hunt is on same weekend.

I agree! I put it in Cross City clubs hands to figure when the best time for them to have the State hunt, because In my opinion the club needs to make that decision for they are the ones putting the dogs in the woods. They made the decision for that date and later I found out it was on the same weekend as the UKC State hunt. I hope next year this will all be planned out better and thses hunts are not on the same dates.

On another thought, Back in 2001 they hunted the Final Four off to crown the State Champion in UKC. They gave everyone there places and took the four high scoring dogs and determined a True winner. If you didn`t draw feeders you still had a chance to be in the top 4.

I don't know how the state hunt location are picked. I will not attend the GA State Hunt this year because of its locaton. I'm not driving 4 hours to hunt a state hunt. Especially when I get there they say it's ok to drive another 2 hours to hunt. I don't think will take that chance.

Rance if I am not at Walker Days I would gladly drive back to your club and hunt it. As you stated getting sent to the forest is getting old. Especially when you find a FRESH dead coon in a tree in the area in which you are being guided.

We held that hunt at our club 3 or 4 times and put people in coons within 30 minutes. If it is not a real good place to hunt and score coons lets move it somewhere else.

I sure don`t mind people driving along ways to score on more coons, I just don`t want to go far myself. I will take my chances close.

Chris in order to move people must attend the state meeting, held the same day as the hunt, and elect new state officers. Then the newly elected state officers must decide on a new location. UNTIL THE STATE OFFICERS CHANGE DON'T EXPECT ANYTHING DIFFERENT!

Mr. Moon,
The Georgia Federation chose to begin moving the State Hunt around each year on a rotation basis, just for the reasons you are stating here. Weheard the to far to drive pleas, from all over the state. Last year was the first year of the new rotation schedule. The State is split into 4 quarters, with the Interstate 20 and 75 intersect being the dividing line. This year it was moved down south way, to the Southeast section, moving to the Southwest next, then back up to Northwest in 2012. This rotation will most likely continue, in an effert to give every hunter in the state a chance to hunt in the State's Premier event, and theorectically not have to drive so far. It also moves the host clubs around to give them all a shot at hosting a larger event. We know fully that it will be a long drive for hunters from area, but when it does rotate your way, the drive will be long for the south too. As far as driving two hours to hunt once you get here, i don't think that will happen. We are working hard to get all the guides we can gather, with good hunting ground, and there is some good one, that are fairly close. I would venture to say 60 minutes would be the max that anyone would drive, and most in the 15-45 minute range.
As a board of director, i thank you for your comments, and if we can help you with any issues you may have, please call.

2 Michigan state hunts have been won in this back yard. 90 plus miles one year, 25 or so a few years later. Dave

Come to the State hunt the year before, and be a member of the Federation. The membership is required to get into the general meeting. once in there, state your case, but be advised, only clubs from the next rotation area will be considered. When your area is up, and your club is voted on by the membership to host, you have it. We really like to see several local clubs working together to host it. seems to work well that way. Thank you for the interest.

best thing that could happen for numbers down here would be if a certain ill english dog that no one wants to hunt with would be left at the house.

I have been hearing quite a bit of complaints on this dog in question. There is not alot I can do about this but give some advice on how to possibly fix it.
