I had one do that about 10 yrs. ago,I was about to whip him and send him on ,,,then I realized he was winding his 1st lay up coon that was straight upwind of him in a little tree on the edge of the cornfield ...by the end of the season he tightened up real good and treed several lay-ups,,but never another corn stalk.........

Had a Walker dog I was hunting for someone else do that one
night, otherwise he wasn't really the tree happy type. Had a
bluetick do it one night and there actually was a coon on the cornstalk. The dog was just realizing he could tip it over as we
were getting there.

I have seen pups do it alot. The last pup I culled did it alot. That's not why I culled him tho. I culled him because he never moved on from cornstalks to trees.

I had one do the same thing. As a pup she would lock down on a corn stalk and blow the top out. I thought, man this is going to be a tree dog, but it never happened. Still confuses me to this day....
