Plott Hounds

Hey, I'm just curious as to how many of yall run Plotts. I mean, I hear of people runnin Walkers and Black and Tans and Redbones, and don't get me wrong, theyre good dogs too, but I never hear of anyone runnin Plotts. I mean, theyre just as good as those other dogs people run. I aint sayin there the best, but theyre good too. And why are people always putting them down? yea, they were bred for big game hunting. I live in big game country. 20 minuts away from where the man who bred the first Plott Hounds lived, and my line of Plotts come from those dogs, but theyre just as coon crazy as most dogs. I just wish people would get their heads out of the clouds and see that Plotts are coondogs too...

I hunt plotts and I like plotts but I am certainly not lobbying for them. If, as a breed, they can prove themselves in the woods enough that other people respect them, then they can. If they can't, then me talking about it all day won't make one bit of difference. What I need to be doing is whatever I can to make it so my plott is able to make an impression enough that people respect the dog regardless of what color it is.

At the end of the day, dog performance, regardless of breed, rules the day.

My first dog was a redbone. Number two was a treeing tenessee brindle named Bomber. He was the first class skunk dog that I often tell stories about. Then my first puppy was a Plott that was Pioneer bred along with some of Tom Neta's line. My second pup was a Casey bred plott, but he never made anything. Then the dogs are just sort of a blurr. I know I had blueticks and cur dogs along with many others, but none were coon dogs.

Then I got my first walker pup in 1983, and I have stuck with the same family since.
