Which type of dog wins comp. air, trail or track

I was wondering if I could get some of you that hunt all over the country which type dog do you need to average more wins over the country. I know one will look better in some places than others.
1. The dog that will run in a straight line head up looking for a air scent (lay up) or very hot trail.

2. The dog that will run with it's head up but will hunt the ground as it goes panning, going to water and running it's edge. Looking for a hot trail.

3. A dog that will hunt like number two but with it's head down and will work a fairly old track but nothing it can't move pretty fast. (tree in 15-20 minutes)

Again I know each of these dog have there place were they would do better than others. I guess I am wondering which type of hunting do you have the most of when you are hunting the big hunts around the country?

2, but the good one's need to do all 3 fairly well. not so much as where you are hunting, but the types of conditions you are hunting THERE.

Thank you for replying. I live in flat country and hunt creeks and river bottoms. The woods aren't very wide. Most times not over 100 yds. a dog will learn to hit the creek or the edge of the woods and run to find a trail.
I went to a hunt in the hills and big woods for the first time this weakend. I saw were a dog would have to do a little differant to have the best chance of hitting a track before getting out of hearing distance. There one that would make a big circle would pay off a little better.
I allso saw why a friend of mine is kicking himself a lot of time for recasting his dog. You can wind up a longgggg way from the truck if they are straight runners.
Can you tell me what you get in the most, big woods or creeks in the big hunts. I know most of them are held out east but never been out there.

Depends where you're guide takes you. Most 'good' guides try to hit corn and/or water sources. All depends which state and what part of a state you're hunting in.
