Its been my observation, over the years, that most of the Walkers I know of that have died of old age, were around Ten years old.
They seem to start going downhill pretty bad when they are eight years old.

my oldest male died around 14 and was hunted every season but not as much as he would have liked..his half sister is around 12 right now and her daughter is 9 + .....

i dont think this is the norm for reg purebred coondogs

most of my purebred walkers that died of normal old age ,usually died around 9-10 years old.....

some have die of lead poising for growling at the hand that feeds it and a few other stupid thing they shouldnt have done ..

but a normally life span of the good dogs i've had in the last 37yrs is between 9-10 yrs old..
i have 2 females 9 and 12 and
2 males (littermates)at 9 yrs old right now..
i consider all 4 of these dogs on borrowed time and only god can say how much more time they will be here...

i have a 9 year old grnt female that looks and acts alot younger and will go hard all night but after those long nights you can tell the old girl is a little stoved up.

Had a walker drown by a coon at 12, not one sign of old age on him, hard hunter still had all his teeth never could hunt him down and pups and young dogs had tough time staying up with him. His dad died at 16 only because some coyotes got him down and pulled out his manhood, but his dad lived to 18 tuff line of hounds.

The oldest we've had was 10 when he died, but it wasn't from poor health or old age...we believe he broke his neck trying to get out of his pen. Except for the white in his face you would have never guessed how old he was, and he would still go ALL night in the woods, literally. I believe the old boy would have been hunting at least 3 years more if it hadn't been for that freak accident. No matter how long they live it's never long enough for the ones you love, in my opinion.
