panacur threw vet

ivomectin for heart worm- 1/10 cc for every ten lbs of dog/ hound weight. If the dog/ hound is at say 65 lbs I usually go to 7/10 for a little extra protection. JMO

do not use ivermetin unless your hound has been checked to insure it doesn't have heartworm as ivermectin will kill all the heartworms at once and will cause death of the hound due to clogging clogging the blood stream'
ivermetin is a good prevenitive for heartworm administered once a month but the dog must be free of heart worm prior to using this product

Wormer

I use safeguard as well...

It comes in powder form and you mix it with their feed. Use it for three days.

It works good on my hound, but the only drawback I see is that it tends to make my hound a little agitated after taking it.

After giving the safeguard wormer to my hound, she will then at night constantly bark and chop at absolutely nothing... it's annoying... but I put up with it cause I know it works...

All Around Wormer

Drontal from your vet. One round and low stress but expensive compared to others

wormer

atgard from your local mill or feed store...swine wormer...crystals...use one half teaspoon on peanut butter sandwich[1 slice folded over] WARNING: make sure dog does not have heartworms first. after first dose worm dogs every 6 months & they will not have any worms...start young dogs on it at 6 months old[no need to have heartworm check..it takes 6months for microfilae to become heartworm...that is reason for every six months] don't hunt dog night u worm them. been using it for over 25years and haven't lost one yet nor have any get sick...cost around 7-9 $ enough for 4 or 5 be careful w/ivemec...they say won't hurt dogs but know of several friends whose studs went sterile...could be coincidence but i don't

Actually this is false Ivomec does not kill adult heartworms. It only kills the microfilaria. otherwise vets would use ivomec for heartworm treatment instead of caparsulate (sp) derivitives which kill the adults and is more expensive. Also this is why they want your dog to have lots of bedrest after a treatment as the adults basically have to decompose in the blood stream.
sometimes in older dogs that may not survive the treatment ivomec will be given to break the lifecycle of the heartworm and the adults will be left to live the rest of their life with no new infection occuring.

it only cost a few buck for a fecal exam once you find out if your dogs have worms then you can do your own worming without being out of a lot of cash.

BTW what type of food are you using?

My vet gives me Panacure and its administered for 3 days in a row. seems to work very well as none of my coon dogs or rabbit beagles never have parasites or worms
