My Gr.Nt.Ch.

does.He barks with a chop on track, about a 3 or 4 real deep and quick chop when he locates, then a steady 70 to 80 bpm. on the tree. He's real tricky to call if you've never hunted him before, but if you've hunted with him often it's not to bad.And he is an English dog.

I had a male walker that was chop on track and tree with no noticable change over from track to tree. took a few nights to get used to knowing when he was treed. if ever found another one like him I'd buy it in a heart beat providing it was for sale.
That bawling stuff bores me and puts me to sleep.

Surprised to hear there are hunters that would prefer a chop mouth dog,I always figured it was something that went on the negative side of the ledger and something that was just tolerated because the dog had other things going for it. I will admit though that i have hunted with some chop mouth dogs that could be heard a long wats off. Personally i want a dog that uses his mouth according to the track and it seems alot of these chop mouth dogs are way to mouthy.

to me that's one of the reasons i run coonhounds to listen
to the hounds run with that bawl. You can have a bawl
mouth track dog without it being a slow tracker.
I really don't care much for chop mouth hounds.

Mine bawl when trailing and when they get to running start chopping. They really sound strange right before they catch on the ground. Had a pretty nice dog that would abandon barking all together when he got to crowding something but you could hear him grunting as he strained to catch.
Yes, I guess I am old fashioned for I still like to hear a big bawl mouth hound.
Adios,
Gary

I agree completely. If you want a chop mouth get a house dog. Yip, Yip, Yip drives me nuts. Chop on tree is the only way I like it.

Can't stand 'em......

I've had a few that were chop all the way, didn't like it, but was able to live with it. I prefer a loud bawl on track and a good steady chop on tree.

A bawl mouth tarck dog doesn't mean he moves a track slow. Just like a chop mouth track dog doesn't mean he is a fast track dog. If you are looking for a chop mouth track dog because you think if he chops on track he will burn the woods down moving a tarck, you could get dissappointed.

Mouth

Really it dosent matter so much what kind of mouth a hound has to much, they just have to make it sound interesting, and keep me exited about what they are doing. Bawling on a old cold track is not so bad but atleast pick it up a notch when the track gets better, dont just stand on your head , move it and tell me how exited you are to have it going the right way is all i ask
and run it to catch it ...............

My Plott male is semi-silent on track. But when he does bark it's a chop. About 1 bark every 70-110 yds he covers (and he covers them fast!!) Then, really doesn't have a changeover bark but goes into a steady, fast chop on tree.

I used to be picky about a dogs voice, but have learned over time that when you have nothing that will tree a real live Ricky the Raccoon you will settle for whatever type mouth it has......Voice is a far distant second to accuracy.

I prefer bawl track, chop tree...but like I said above, it ain't no big thing....chop track, bawl tree, any combo is fine when there's meat at the end of the line.
