here's what i'm after

a smaller dog, no bigger that 35#'s, must hunt medium speed, and range at least 300 yards. will take a track if need be but doesn't need to open on it, must have a mouth i can hear when treed and natural stay put tree dogs(breed wise) looking for a squirrel dog only. must have good nose as winter is cold and snow can get deep.

WHAT BREED AM I LOOKING FOR?

I would suggest a Streak bred Mountain Cur. The streak will keep them on the smaller side, but big enough to fend off Yotes and see above the snow.

Wade, most of my dogs range from 30-45 pounds. Very seldom do I ever get one over 40-45 pounds.
As for the hunting style, they are all pretty much the same. They will hunt out in front of you several hundred yards, making circles or zig zags as they go. Most all of our dogs are hard hunting, solid stay put tree dogs on coon and squirrels both. All these dogs have big loud mouths and most are hard tree dogs as well. Feel free to give me a call some evening if you want to talk dogs or shoot me a number. Even if you dont want to buy a dog right now we can talk dogs and explain how these cur dogs operate.

cur dogs

Here's some of my treeing curs. My females go 30 lbs., and the males go 35-40 lbs. They will open when a track is available, have loud mouths, and are excellent tree dogs. They are stay put tree dogs with great noses.

Here is my male 25 lbs of squirrel treeing machine.

They are half treeing feist and half English coonhound. The English side is the old stock of dogs, Boyds Little Joe, Bates Blue Kash, Bowmans Lady Bird, etc. Both sides are track driving tree dogs.

Moodyhound;
Let me know when you have a litter of pups, I would like to get a female pup and try it... Like the looks of the dogs, just a little too much hound look for me, but I would still like to hunt one !!!
