Late Deadlines for hunts

I think it would be kinda of cool to have a late deadline for a hunt in say feb. when the leaves are off and coons are tough to tree. Say 12 o clock send the dogs out and have a 6 am deadline to return. I bet you would have some low scores and a lot that would minus out. lol. This would show what a dogs are made out of and show who has some of the better track dogs. I might try to schedule one if anyone around the morehead, Ky area would be interested. Maybe throw in a prize or two for the Gr.Nt.CH just so people would bring them out. Just a thought, what do you think about it. TIm

Sounds like a great Idea wish I was closer I would hunt in it.I have an English Dog that will tree hard and have a coon on the outside 90% of the time in January & Feb.& March But when the leaves are thick and the ground is dry he's not worth the bullet to shoot him.

We tree coon in 10" inches of snow all the time, I don't think its all that much tougher, My opinion. The tougher part is me getting thru the snow. LOL I do agree with you on the late side of things, the early morning coon can be tougher.

I have my doubts as to whether such a hunt would draw and I also know our club would never waste one of it's 7 UKC dates on a hunt that might not draw. Now if it was PKC or AKC where you can schedule 2 a month, we might be willing to try it.

I also have to wonder about this whole idea that nite hunts "show what a dog is made of". You wanna know what a dog is made of, go hunt with the dog. I have never heard of a coonhunter that wouldn't show what he's got anytime to anyone but if they did refuse, that would tell me all I needed to know.

Fowlston GA used to have a morning hunt once a year. i think the deadline was 2 am and cards had to be turned in by 9am. I hunted in it a couple of times and they always had a good draw. Fun hunt to towards the end no light was needed as it would be breaking daylight.
