anyone interested in a white river AR hunt in december?

Ive been wanting to get up there to the white river area in arkansas ever since i talked to a couple of folks that said it was hands down the best place to coon hunt in the country. Im plannin on gettin out there and campin out either in a tent or camper and stayin for 3 or 4 nights of coon hunting. I beileve it will be some time in december when the season opens there for the south unit but i am not sure. Ill find out exact dates. But if anyone is goin up there let me know mabey we can make a few drops or cookouts or what ever.

I wonder what the non-resident costs and requirements are in Ark.? I know in many of the northern states, (Mich.,Minn.) legal coonhunting by a non-resident is out of the reach of anyone but the rich.

My dad used to take a week off of work every year to go hunt over there. I've got a pic of him and 21 coons they got in one night from back in the 70's. I would love to go over there sometime. Let me know when you go in december and I just may have to join you.

I guess I brag about the place too much, because the last few years its been pretty crowded. We hunt east of Ethel, and its not uncommon to tree 40-60 coons in 5-6 nights. There's alot of country south of where we go that I've never been in.
The refuge is broke into two units, North (open Nov. and Dec.) and South (Dec. 1-15). If you decide to go, be sure to dot your i's and cross your t's with regards to the regulations. Seems like EVERYBODY gets a ticket for something. My group is the only one I know of that hasn't got one yet. Another thing to consider is the water level. With too much rain, you'll have problems getting to dogs, and sometimes can't access large blocks of country altogether.
Good luck!!!

Crowded REFUGE

Cory is right about being crowded last year, there were as many dogs in the woods as there were coons. It is not near as good as it was back in the 70's .

i second this about overcrowded. dogs, trucks, 4 wheelers, big water in spots, and people everywhere. people roadhunting and dogs coming in to you. a dang mess. i'd rather hunt from the house. i been one night for the last 2 yrs and once several years ago, i won't likely be back anytime soon.

Been the last three years with Cory and the guys. We study the refuge map and head out a little early and never have a lot of trouble with the crowds. The last three years the refuge has been pretty dry as well. Lots of extra rain this year though.

That's the thing, seems like all the hunters are in the same areas, and there are big tracts with much less pressure. Might be alot less total area this year with all the rain...
