UKC shot down the cross breed rumor a few days ago. It's not going to happen.

I agree with you that I don't want UKC to register them and allow them to be hunted against purebred dogs. Like you said if people want to hunt them let them hunt in the other KC's.

Virgil, with single registration, they are already hunted with the registered dogs. Instead of being marked as crossbreed, they allow them to be single registered as a breed with some breed association not requiring a known pedigree.

I love to hear those comments because fact is crossbreeds are already hunting with the so called registered dogs under the umbrella of single registration.

But folks don;t want to hunt with them..............too late.

A crossbreed program would eliminate the breed single registrations that allow muddy genetics to be added on what is already there.

Maniac, I agree their all products of crossbreeds in their creation.

I just don't undertsand the folks who say no to crossbreeds and don't want them hunting with registered dogs when crossbreeds are already able to through single registrations -- not only get registered but also have full breeding rights.

Take the B&T breed -- no known pedigree is needed to get single registered.............B&T breed as been well established for many years -- why introduce a dog that has more than hounds in it's pedigree into the breeding ranks of the B&T today?

I think a crossbreed program could also help slow down false papers (notice I didn't say STOP) as there would be an avenue.

I guess my thinking is if you want to be a pure dog registry -- why allow the single registrations and unpure muddy dogs in the breeding ranks?

Don't get me wrong.........I have owned grade, registered, and crossbreed.

There was a time when I owned more grade than papered. Right now is the only time I have not had a grade dog here at the house............I reckon that is only because I fool around with hunting Bassets these days and own more Bassets than coonhounds right now.

It would not matter to me if they looped all coonhound breeds as 1 -- kinda like beagles and bassets--- every color you can imagine, yet considered the same breed..............as basically color is really the only difference and what the fuss is about like with too much white on B&T;s, buckskin on Plotts, and etc..

At the end of the day, their just hounds -- color is just a variety.

I understand what you guys are saying about single registered and them already hunting with purebred dogs. Those dogs however have to meet breed standards for the breed which they are registered. Pups out of them would also have to meet breed standards to be registered. With single registration UKC is still keeping the breed standards intact.

With crossbreeds anything, regardless of size, color, conformation, hunting style, etc... they would still be registered.

theory versus practicality.

right now under the single registration program hardly any dogs are being single registered and very few of those are making an impact in the breeding pen.

you start a cross bred program and all that changes.

with single reg...their pups dont have to match/meet anything any other papered dog does cause puppys parents have papers after they have been singled reg.. just like crossbreeds would be in the same boat ...

thats what his point was, absolutely no breed standard and no requirement to tree coon on own as is with the single registreation

i'm sure if they was to open a crossbred class,
they would have to tree to be single reg into the crossbreed class just like single reg...
as with any breed i dont think they would let you walk in off the street and reg something you found at the pound without showing it could tree,,,

Like it or not most "pure breeds" will have dogs in their pedigree with no PR in front of their names. It helps the breeds to do this. If you have a half poodle and half walker and whuuuppp my butt in a hunt then you obviously have a better COONDOG than I do that night. If you want to raise coondogs it doesn't matter what they are. I would comp hunt my shepherd if he would tree coons better than my hounds. A coondog is a dog that will tree a coon and do it right and consitently. I am all for an open registered group. May the better dog win and the genetics will help later on down the road when the pure breed gene pool is the size of a mud puddle. One of the most honest and accurate dogs I ever had was 1/4 yellow cur, 1/4 red heeler, and 1/2 walker. She got ran over smoking a coon ahead of some pure bred hounds. Don't mean to make anybody mad but if you like a breed you are always looking for ways to make it better.
