It's just a guess but I would say that the biggest one is about 250lb's and the smallest one would be about 100lb's.JMO

Yeah, theres nothing to use for reference but like Larry said, 250 to 300 seems about right for the larger one. May want to just run that one and not harvest, it's most likely a sow and the smaller one is last years cub. Mom must not have had a litter this early spring or she would have run the older cubs off...the cub will be looking to den up with Mom this winter.

Judging the size of bears is really difficult. Judging the size of bears in pictures is even worse. I just go with small, medium or large.

Small under 150lbs. Medium 150lbs. to 250lbs. Large over 250lbs.

You have a small and a medium.

Bears

I'd say the big one will go around 300... the small one around 100.... the medium about 150. The big boar I don't believe the picture does him justice. He looks compacted and heavy to me.

i want opinion on size yes, but to be honest 1st thing over 100#s is getting a arrow punched through it, i'm hunting non quota and we get to tag over the counter, don't get me wrong i want to shoot the biggest but only will happen if he comes in 1st(i never shot a bear before).. here are some updated pics

little bear

scar(has a scar on his head that can be seen at certain angles)

well last night i put arrow into the bear we called scar, decieded after not hear the death moan just to back out and come in early morning, weighed him on the farmers cattle scale and it read 364#. this is my 1st balck bear and all i do is archery hunt so taking a bear this size with my bow was a bonus, he made a samll loop but died within 50 yards of the stand.

Ok, putting my flame suit on...
"well last night i put arrow into the bear we called scar, decieded after not hear the death moan just to back out and come in early morning, "
First, I have nothing against hunting, even trophy hunting, if done right and with respect.
Do I understand the above quoted line correctly? The bear was shot with an arrow, you left before confirming the bear was dead? Before you knew if the bear had a fatal wound? So the bear may have lived for minutes or hours in pain and vulnerable to other predators?
Correct me if I misunderstood.

the shot looked good and felt good. but being a little shook up(nerves , excitement. etc.) i guess i questioned my shot, we heard him go down and what we believed his last breath. but i follow a rule some don't "when in doubt back out" for arguement sake lets say i made a bad shot, pushing a fatal but misplaced shot animal leads to one thing 99% of the time. and dead animal not recovered, or in this case worse someone charged and attacked, thankful enought the shot was right were i put it and all is good..

i'm not going to get upset some might, i will answer your question the best i can and let you take it anyway you want.

back straps, bear jerky, and bear summer sausage hmmmm, hmmmm, good.

Sometimes it's better to back out , and retrieve the animal the next morning , when there is any question on the shot , than to push a wounded animal and not recover it at all. Gun or bow.
It happens more with a bow than a gun though , because an arrow doesn't have the " knock-down " power of a bullet.
Anyone who knows anything about bowhunting knows this.
He did the right thing.

Nice Bear Wade !
Congrats !

Wade,
Thank you for your reply, I appreciate the calm response. I know NOTHING about bear hunting so did not know what is 'normal' or 'usual'.
I can appreciate what you said about a wounded bear coming back at you.
In a more perfect world, each and every kill would be clean, quick, no fuss no muss.
I try not to be a hypocrite, I eat tasty animal flesh and something tells me the cattle are not rocked to sleep before being slaughtered.
Hunting is not my thing but I surely respect your rights to do so and congratulate you as well.

ThAT IS DEFINITELY A NICE LOOKING BEAR.......
I'd be darn proud to take that big boy.......what's also cool is that you have some nice trail cam pic's of him too.......
Are you gonna mount him ? Or maybe do a rug ?

Good job, sound slike you did everything right! Especially backing out and letting it die rather than get injured or push it around all day and night. If more people could do that they'd have something to bring home (although it's very hard to walk away knowing it could be laying 50 yards away stone dead lol!). Would make a nice shoulder mount.
