U.k. Coach Cal.[ Vilotation ]

what you guys think about coach cal and the memphis vilations, we all know that u.mass. got in trouble for vilations in 1997. and cal. left them hanging and moved on. know he has done the same thing to memphis how long will it be tell he does it to ky. for he knows that if you dont win at ky. then your out . look what they done to billy g. that wasnt right. the universty done gillispi wrong and cal is going to do u.k. wrong before its over. and move on . i think that the coach should get the same as the college gets that they leave on its not right for them to just say well were in trouble weve got caught ill make it look like im not in it and then move on to a new team..

Cal did nothing wrong, the NCAA has already cleared Cal of any wrong doing in this situation. The problem with Derrick Rose's SAT score came while he was in high school and was done by his high school not just for him but for several players on the team. Grades for some of the other players were changed as well. The team did this to keep the players eligible to compete for a state title. Several of the other players have admitted that it was a high school thing and Memphis had nothing to do with it. Memphis is just the unlucky party in this situation.

Any Pitino fan shouldnt be talking about violations to a UK fan, Pitino has 8 NCAA violations on his record and Cal has 0.

looks like memphis may have 38 wins and 2008 final 4 appearence vacated, same thing in 96 at umass, if so Cal will be the only coach to ever have two ncaa experiences vacated at two different schools..... if no fradulent infractions occured no penalty, also was illegal expediture of $2000 travel $$$ for Rose's brother while Derrick was emrolled playing at memphis.... no dog in this fight, wish both uk and memphis well, ul too since they have been mentioned... don't think anything offical yet...

It didn't take the mods long to Delete the Pitino thread..I'll say they will ZAP this one pretty quick.

Its funny you can put stuff on here about Coaches and the Mods will Zap it. They can Bash Obama on threads ,and they never get deleted.

Cal has had two of his team's final four appearances revoked though. I am not a Pitino fan by any means but I don't think that he has ever had that happen to him. Regardless of the reason that Memphis just lost all their wins from 07-08 season it seems a little fishy to me that this is the second time it has happened to a Cal coached team.

Memphis admitted the 2000$ for Rose's brother but that was an accounting error. It is legal by NCAA rules for people to travel witht the team as long as they are billed by the university and pay for the trip. Rose's brother traveled with the team on pretty much every single trip all year and paid for them all. On one trip however it appears that the university didn't file the paperwork and send him the bill. He has since paid the 2000$ back to Memphis. This one is kind of shady but still appears as though it was a simple mistake by someone in the accounting office.

The stuff at UMASS was between Marcus Camby and an agent paying him money while he was in school so he would sign with the agent went he went to the NBA. I have not researched this one as much as the Memphis thing but the NCAA cleared Cal of any wrongdoing in this instance as well.

One point to make about the UMASS trouble was that Duke had the same thing happen with Corey Maggette in 1999 when they went to the championship game. Maggette accepted money from an agent and both he and the agent admitted to it when the NCAA investigated and Duke has yet to face any sanctions because of it. Seems hypocritical of the NCAA not to punish one school for the same thing that it stripped a final four away from another school for.

Here you go, a link to a story that tells about Pitino's violations while an assistant coach at Hawaii. They include lying to the NCAA investigators and giving a player a car. He also provided free airfare to players on vists.

What in the world does that matter? I am not a fan of Pitino's, I actually really dislike the guy. This thread is about UK's coach currenlty, not the one you used to have!! And I bet you loved him when he was there didn't you??

So your saying that it is just a big coincidence that two of Cal's teams have lost all their wins in one season due to violations?

Well it matters because you said Pitino had never had that happen to him when in fact he has.

looks like memphis is charged with fradulent practices and failure to monitor and will have wins vacated... just a thought do the wins 38 during 2007-8 and 35 in 96 at umass count in coach cal's win total or are they deducted there as well, would be loss of 73 wins for the coach.....

Apparently my wording wasn't quite clear. What I meant was Pitino hasn't had two final four appearances taken away from him at two different programs.

So let me ask you this. With all this going on are you still happy to have Coach C (stands for Calipari, not CHEAT) running your program?

coach cal

Kentucky is not texas and a coach cannot treat his players the way coach gillespie did and get a way with it. Gillespie was way out of his league and most likely will never be on the big stage again.

This is the last I will say on this topic due to the fact that my knowledge of the situation seems to be offending people. I am sorry to those that I may have offended as it was not my intent. I am just true blue card carrying member of the Big Blue Nation and sticking up for my cats is just instinctual.

I am still proud Coach Cal is our coach. I believe the following years will be some of the best ever for the UK program and we will be back on top sooner rather than later.

Anybody who follows college basketball and specifically college basketball recruiting knows that any coach who is consistently winning at a high level crosses the letter of the NCAA law from time to time. All the top coaches of my lifetime have been in trouble with the NCAA at one time or another, Roy Williams, Coach K, Rick Pitino, Coach Cal, Bill Self, Kelvin Sampson, Jim Harrick, along with many others. The NCAA is very hypocritical on how they issue punishment in these instances, see my earlier post regarding the Corey Maggette incident while he was at Duke. Is it likely that Cal has crossed those lines at some point, yes it is but he has never been implicated in any of it. This situation would not have come to light had one of Rose's high school teammates not bragged about his test score being changed to the wrong people. The NCAA Clearinghouse, the NCAA office that must clear all players and thier grades and test scores before they can play, cleared Rose to play and now they hold Memphis responsible for letting him play when they cleared him to play.

Anybody who follows UK knows that we have been one of the most penalized college basketball programs in NCAA history. It dates all the way back to Rupp and then the major blow with Eddie Sutton. Since Eddie Sutton UK has put into place the best NCAA compliance office in all of college sports. That is why UK has not even sniffed a NCAA violation since the day Pitino started on as coach until today. The UK compliance office contacted the NCAA when they were interviewing Cal and Cal was cleared of any wrongdoing in this situation before he was ever hired. Both Mitch Barnhardt and Lee Todd as well as the head of the compliance office knew of the ongoing Memphis investigation. That is why Barnhardt mentioned during the press conference to announce Cal as coach that he was completely clean as a coach in regards to any past or current NCAA investigations. Cal will probably still work the boundaries of the law, like other top coaches, but I would be very surprised if he are UK were to ever get into any NCAA trouble during his time as coach.

Virgil,

Intelligent response, and I appreciate you taking the time to write it. You didn't ruffle my feathers with what you were saying at all. I just was wondering what your feelings about Cal were.

You are right most coaches and or prgrams have been investigated by the NCAA.

I wish the cats nothing but luck in the coming years. Mostly b/c I would like the Jayhawks to have another chance to step on Cal's heart again in the championship game.

Rock Chalk!!!!

I wouldnot trade COACH CAL. for any COACH anywhere he is the best we could have got. how can anyone blame highschool test soc.on him when the NCAA pass the player to play.
