advice on starting adult dog?

Greetings. My bro. in law has a 1.5-2 yr. old beagle and wants to start running rabbits with her. We have some good spots but are concerned it might be too late to start her. She seems to have a decent nose and likes to chase stuff. Is it as easy as taking her out into some rabbit habitat or am I missing something.
Thanks.
josh

Josh, if you can afford it, take her to a starting pen for a couple weeks. If not get with someone that has a good old broke dog and run her with them. I would recomend Walter Hummel for a starting pen. 740-622-7659

alot of guys don't like to take older dogs into there starting pens b/c they are too big and can run down the rabbits in starting pens. the oldest i started a dog was 20 months. He started with a pack of dogs got a sight chase standing around us and took off a after that. You can propably start him but should try running him with a pack of dogs and be very patient!!!!! older dogs seem to be harder to start just in my opinion. They are'nt as curious as pups. good luck and if Walter wil take him i'd say try him as well.

Either get him in with a pack or take him to a spot that is loaded with rabbits. His instincts will kick in eventually. He might take off the first time out, or it may take several times out to get him going. Most will start if you put the time into them.
