Reviews on the cordless lights

Lets hears some reviews on the beltless lights. I believe the 2 available are the Smart light and the Predator light.

I was interested in knowing if I would be dissapointed after using a 21 volt belt light. The big plus to these lights seem to be the light wieght and no cord , and a reasonable price.

Lets hear from those using them and how they compare to a 21 volt light. How tough are they and are you dissapointed in the brightness? How long did it hold a charge?

Thanks to those posting.

Nobody out there got one yet? Can anyone say how the Smart light and Predator lights compare to each other in a side to side test , or what the main differances are in the two lights?

I have a Smart Light.

I like the idea of no cord or battery pack on my side.

It is bright enough on the high side to walk and shine by.

The low side will get the coons to look at you.

Plus, the light can be used on High all night long.

Not only do I use mine to hunt with, I use it to work under houses.

Foe the brightness and price, I would recommend it.

But, if you are looking to burn the woods up with extra brightness, just keep on using a 21 or 28 volt and keep buying bulbs.JMO

I really like mine and I will more than likely get one for my 6 yr old daughter.

I am 66 years old. Coonhunted all my life. Used 2 D cell lights,5 D cell. Carbide on the hat/on my belt. Home made lights hooked to Motor cycle battery (burnt my leg and my pants with acid) and a lot of different belt and box lights. I was skeptical of these lights when I first read about them, but couldn't believe what a reasonable price. SO! I bought one and tryed it out. I was so impressed with them that I asked Gary and Joey if I could be a dealer. They talked it over and said yes. I have all ready sold my belt light and box light. There is also a spot light they are selling. Which I bought, but don't really think it is needed. They are a good light though. I have sold all of the 1st shipment and will get a new batch friday. SMART LIGHT also has them on a soft cap for those that want one. The coons seam to look at this low side. Larry

PS. I have never been a dealer for any
other coonhunting equipment befor this.

I haven't seen the Smart Light, but I have had a Predator light since National Redbone Days (4th of July weekend). I love it! The guys I hunted against the first night I used it asked me to turn it down from the high setting because it was soo much brighter than their 21 volt lights. The second night i used it was foggy, it penetrated the fog without reflecting way better than a regular light.
I never felt comfortable with a box light because it didn't sit well on my overly curvaceous hip, so I used to use an old Sunburst with the batteries distributed on a heavy leather belt. The cordless, batterly-less aspect makes a huge difference in weight and comfort.
The LED doesn't get hot, which is a big safety improvement. I can't tell you how many kids I have seen come back with melted bump caps from leaving their 28 volt lights on high too long.
I am not too steady on my feet and have fallen down many times without hurting the light. The other night I got caught in a thunderstorm and fell in a rushing stream I was crossing and the light even did well underwater!
I am a very happy camper with the Predator.

I have seen the smart light in use. It has a brighter and clearer beam on low side than my 21v k light on high.

I am buying a smart light very soon.

I guess these lights are so new that not many peope have experiance with them. I will say this , if they can make one that suits people , they likely take over that same way Garmin did in the tracking bussiness. It certainly wont hurt my feelings to leave my belt at home.

Maybe after AO , more people will have something to say about these lights. I'd say anyone in the light bussiness should be working on a cordless model to stay up with the trend if these lights do work out.

I heard the Smart light has a continuous sequence push button switch , which I'm not sure I'd be crazy about. What kind of switch does the Predator have????

Does either have an adjustable beam? Perhaps a fixed beam would not be a problem anyway , since I usually dont flare mine out much anyway.

I have been using the handheld LED's for a few years .. I do too much swimming and climbing to use a beltlight and those hats mess up my hair.

The LED's make eyes glow 3-1 better than regular lights and they never blow because they aren't a bulb.

I now have a headband LED that is adjustable brightness and beam .. it was $50 .

The downside of the LED is that even the bright ones are mostly good for seeing eyes but in tall timber or when coon won't look ... they take a backseat to the conventional lights and that will never change.

I hunt more short timber and can live with missing a few coon .. but competition hunters will have trouble getting away from the regular lights.

Garmins , those are another story ... it's just too funny to see guys reading those things and talking about how far the dogs are when the dogs are not very far away and barking .

How does the Smart Light compare to the Blazer LED Pro Head???

I've got a Pro Head with a 21v battery and was just wondering how the Smart light compares in brightness.

That's what I use now but the Predator I saw at Redbone Days had a much tighter spot that could be seen when shined on top of my pro head. Couldn't say 100% that it was brighter but it was different and more concentrated. I think the high side is now brighter than the one I saw and most except for some test lights won't be available until around AO's time from what I've heard.

Thanks Dale,

Is it enough of a difference in brightness that it would help find coon you wouldnt otherwise find or is it just a minimal difference??

I was using a 21 volt light And I have now bought a smart light. The light is built very very good. It is no difference in weight you will never know you don't have the 5100 style head on just no cord. This light is not a cheap flashlight mounted to a helmet. I have compared them for brightness and I will say both on hi the smart light is just as bright. Only one is a yellow light and the other is white I prefer the white so I guess thats why I like it so much. If you are using a 21 volt light now you will never miss it if you get a smart light.

Seems like we all have alot of questions and very few answers. I hope that one of the manufacturers OR folks that have bought the lights will come on here and respond to some of these questions..

I'd say after Autumn Oaks , you will be hearing a TON of information about these new lights. I believe I'll wait until more info comes out before I buy anything.

Long shot I have stayed away from this thread so as to not look like I was trying to push our light on anyone. I will be glad to answer any question anyone has about our light. As for the ones I have seen on here let me see if I can help you.
1. I don’t think you will be disappointed after using your belt light. I think you will never were your belt light again.
2. You will not be disappointed in the brightness the light is bright and has a clean spot. It does not have an adjustable spot but it does have a “glow” of a soft dimmer light in a large ring around the spot. It goes down to a few feet in front of you when you are looking strait out.
3. The light is very tough I work in the oil field and when I’m on a drilling rig at night I use it and I have had no trouble.
4. I can't nor would I compare the two lights on here. I have not seen the Predator but I believe from what I have heard they have a good product. We went a different direction then they did. Our light is hard wired the only electronics is the LED driver. We did that to make the light as dependable as possible.
5. Our switch is a mechanical roll switch like the one you use on your 5100 head to go from high to low. The predator light is the one that you heard of with the push button switch.
6. No we do not have a pop cover but I can make a 5200 cover work.
7. The price is $150 plus shipping.

I think I answered all of the questions on here. If not let me know and I will help you.
I am going to give one word of caution about a LED light for the guys that are selling the rest of their lights. The LEDs are rated at many thousands of hours but they are electronics and they can fail before their life expectancy. You are not going to be able to change a bulb like in your light right now. You are going to have to have them shipped in and repaired. I hope that does not scare people away from any of these lights but I am a coon hunter first and I know how frustrating it is to have a hunt tomorrow night and your light goes out. Traditional lights go out too and can leave you in the dark with a burnt switch, bad battery, short in the cord and many other things but I always made sure I had a back up and you should treat these lights the same way.
