June 15th coonchase!
We took the dogs out last night for a couple drops. The first drop I hunted 6 year old NITECH Plott female Dawn and 2 year old English female Rebel and our friend Seth Schatzel brought out his 4 year old walker male, Rock. We turned loose on wood line that was about an acre wide and stretched across the whole field. On the other side was a corn field and a patch of woods to the right that came off the wood line we turned loose in and another small wood line further on up that branched off of the patch of woods. Dawn struck first in about 3 or 4 minutes on the second wood line, and a few seconds later Rebel struck in the patch of woods to the right. We decided to walk on up into that field and by the time we got up there Rebel was treed and Dawn was throwing locates. We waited for Rock to back Rebel and we were soon on our way down to shine their tree. While we were looking, I heard Dawn throw her double bawl and change over in a heart beat and she was treed on that small wood line she had been working on. We found Rebel’s coon and tried to get picture, but it was just too thick.
We got Rock & Reb off the tree and headed over to Dawn. She was treed on a big thick tree right on the wood line, and we luckily found the coon all balled up holding tight, and it refused to look at us. So I snapped a few pictures of Dawn and we headed back to the truck for another dump. The next dump we hunted the same 3 dogs. Rebel and Dawn struck right out of the box and pushed it through a small wood line on out to a 50-100 acre wheat field that was above our heads. I didn’t want their eyes to get all cut up so I just called them back into me. We drove around to Rock who was treed about a quarter of a mile or a half a mile from where we turned loose to find him on a big leafy den, and without luck we found no coon. We would’ve continued huntin’, but Seth had to be at work in 3 hours and wanted to get some sleep so we called it a night. We saw some outstanding dog work last night. I am looking forward to hunting the rest of the week- we have hunts set up to hunt with Redbone man Mike Stewart, Bluetick man Wes DePalmo, English Man Jamie Livengood, and Plott man Kevin Lundholm!
Happy hunting and enjoy!
