I use a dremel tool, with a small rubber arbor that takes sandpaper drums. The more often you do the nails, the farther the quick will receed. The dogs dont mind the dremel one bit, alot better than clippers.

you're right about the dremel tool. i used it and the dogs resist it but they don't fight it. the problem though is that it takes only a little off at a time.

Depends on the drum you use, the ones I use can easily take off 1/4 inch in no time. You have to be careful, only grind until you see a rubbery like layer, then stop. That's the layer just before the quick. After a few times the dog will just stand there...mine act like they enjoy it. Allot better than using clippers, and dealing with bleeding nails and a squirming dog. Another good thing about grinding is you can reshape the nail, every 3rd time or so I grind the bottom of the nail right next to the toe. Keeps everything in good shape.

Dremel w/ large round sanding bit. Done in 5 minutes, yeah sometimes a bit of blood, but if you do this every week, the quick will pull back in and you can get the nails nice and short. Other option, go to the vet, knock her out and have them cut them back farther. Would be very painful for her for about a week or so, not my choice, but is an option. I've used dremels on all my dogs nails for the last 18 yrs. There is nothing else I will use on them. Fast, safe and usually painless.

Side note...if you have long hair, pull it back in a pony tail, I learned the hard way of getting my hair wrapped up in the dremel. Twists it right into the scalp and is a devil of a thing to get untangled.

I bought one of the petti Paws for my dogs. I works pretty good and has a special tool that won't let you get your dogs nails to short. It was worth the $20. I use it on all of my dogs.

I bought one of the Pedi-Paws recently too. I have to say, they tolerate it a lot better than clippers, but the talons my dogs have will wear out the sanding head quick. The first time I used it on my Walker pup I really only had to do his back feet, and it got pretty dull. I was able to use it on two other dogs, but it didn't work as well and I believe the head needs to be changed now. I might have to save up some money and get an actual Dremel!

Dremel is the only way to go.... with a little work and using the dremel every 4-5 days they will be short in no time... I use the sandpaper rings and the last a good while i use on 3 dogs at a time and works wonderful...

I got a dremel and it works GREAT!!! I got mine at WalMart it was around $49. I have 6 hounds and I can get toenails done in no time. Toenails are done once a week, seems to work best.

I got one here that you cant cut her nails unless you take her to the vet and get her put under. AND THATS NO LIE!! Sometimes you can clip them, but if you bust out the dremel watch out cause you gonna get bit!
