I have one. she is 8, never bred. she started hard on cage coon at 6m. the few times I took her hunting she usually had the coon. she trees off the tree under canopy (keeps her out of trouble)...really hates a coon.

spoiled rotten, likes to be loved and gives hugs and sloppy kisses, likes to sleep under the covers (not anymore tho), minds really well.

timber chopper bred hounds

this is just my opinion, top tree dogs but lack in the get deep dept. I have had red dogs over 30 years and have had a lot of TC bred ones.

At this point in time, how far back is TC in most pedigree's? I have a very high opinion of TC along with some of the other great sires of the Redbone breed (Famous Amos, Littleman, Ramblin' Red Ace, etc) however, alot of dogs that I hear are TC bred do not show him in the 3 generation and sometimes you have to go 5 or more generations back to find him....At that point it's good to recognize him as a foundation in you pedigree but I wonder is it correct to give TC credit or fault for a puppy that has so many other factors (sires and dams) in the mixture?????

TC

The hounds that I am talking about were off the Old Timber Chopper and his direct off spring. I hunted with many, there were some that were top hounds, most like I said were lacking in the get deep dept. One super hound off TC was Gr.Nt.Ch. Millers Valley Rocket owned by Claude Miller, now he was a get deep get treed type with a huge mouth.

I also live down the road from Wayne Campbell and have had a Timber Chopper hound. I gave it away after it was 18 months and would just sit and watch a wounded coon on the ground...had 0 hunt. This female was a really nice dog though and now lives the life inside in a Henrico County subdivision...This happens in all lines though. I hunted with Timber Chopper stock 20 years ago when I was a kid with my grandad and his dogs were awesome(he never had a tracking system/shock collars). I guess what I would do if I try another red dog, is be sure I hunt with BOTH sire and dame before investing 18 months in a pup.IMO
