Training scent??

What bear training scent have you found to be the best for the money?

We have used National Bear scent with some pretty good success, but our club had a trial a few weeks ago and they had some "Pete ..." brand scent that was about $15 for about a quart sized bottle. This stuff worked great, every heat came around and they came around hard. I called Pete Rickards Scents and they rough guessed around $25 - $30 per pint plus shipping, so I don't think it was that brand.

Does anyone know a contact in northcentral Wisconsin for National scent? I might just go back to using that again for this year.

We use Grawes Animals Scents from Whapeton, North Dakota for all our training purposes. These are fresh ground using all applicable scent glands and are not urine based as so many scents are. Mr. Grawe has developed the training line just for houndmen and understands their needs. This product goes a long way but i still recommned bying the 16 oz. Pro size. I keep mine between training sessions in a zip-lock bag in the fridge and it lasts a long time.

those that train for bobcat and cougar will also find his products excellents.

Good luck!

TRAINING SCENT

MIKE, HOW MUCH GRAWES BEAR SCENT DO YOU USE WHEN LAYING A SCENT TRAIL. BEEN TRYING THE GRAWES BUT NOT HAVING MUCH SUCESS. DOGS DON'T SEEM TO BE TOO INTERESTED. DON'T KNOW IF I'M USING TOO MUCH OR NOT ENOUGH. I LIKE DOING IT WHILE BEAR SEASON IS OUT SO THE DOGS GET OUT A LITTLE BIT.

a drop ther hounds but it says put a libral amount but if your dogs run live bear they might not run the dead bear scent because it not live bear scent by no means bears eat diffrent things through out the seasons and i bet smell a lil diffrent each season like strait fish comp[aired to berries and grubs oh well i have had dogs that eat bear up but wouldnt run a drag if you used a whole bottle try runnin them with a hound that will or put a con or cat in round cage and soak it with your bear scent and see if that dont trigger them to run it good luck
