For the one pulling back - yes, pulling gently on the tail works to make them lean forward. You can also stand them with their back feet right at the back edge of the bench - even with the big pad of the foot hanging slightly over the edge, and it will encourage them to lean forward.
For the one leaning forward, I would just move the front feet further forward until the front leg is straight up and down, leave the back feet where they are, and make sure your leash is loose so that the dog is not leaning into it.
As with anything, praise or treat for small improvements, and then gradually raise your standards.
