MY FEMALE HAD PUPS ABOUT 13 WKS AGO. HERE COAT IS REALLY STARTING TO LOOK BAD.AND HERE HAIR IS THINNING OUT ALOT.I HAVE HAD PEOPLE TELL ME TO GIVE HER EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL TO MAKE HER COAT BETTER. WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND I GIVE HER.I FEED ALL OF MY DOG "DIAMOND NATURALS'AND ALL OF THEM DO GREAT ON IT.PLEASE GIVE SOME FEED BACK...THANK YOU...

well feeding her noxiton jello "canning jello" will help her not to blow her coat, there is other stuff too , but i like this best

It's perfectly normal after having a litter. You can help the new coat grow back in faster by giving her oil - any kind at all - steak fat, bacon grease, vegetable oil - just a tablespoon or two on her food every day. A raw egg every other day will help as well.

MY SKEETER FEMALE DOES THE EXACT SAME THING!

SHE WILL LOOK HORRIBLE FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS, ALMOST LIKE SHE'S GOT THE MANGE.

OUR VET SAID THAT IT IS NORMAL THAT THE MAMA USES UP SO MUCH OF HER NUTRIENTS FEEDING THE PUPS THAT HAIR LOSS IS VERY COMMON IN FEMALES.

THEY ALSO SAID THAT IT DOESNT HELP THAT THE FEMALE WILL SPEND ABOUT 4 WEEKS LAYING ON HER SIDES AND THAT WILL ACTUALLY BREAK SOME OF THE HAIR ALSO.

WE JUST ALWAYS KEEP HER ON AN AUTOMATIC FEEDER AND AS SOON AS THE PUPS GET WEANED BATH HER GOOD TO MAKE SURE AND GET HER CLEAN.

WE HAVE TRIED ALOT OF STUFF TO HELP IT GROW BACK, BUT WE HAVE FOUND AFTER 4 LITTERS IT WILL JUST TAKE TIME.

A few years ago I had a problem with some of my dogs looking like they would come down with the mange in the summer time, one of my best females especially was the worst. There was a long thread on the message board about this problem and the common denominator was Diamond dog food, which was what I was feeding. I switched to black gold and problem went away. A few weeks ago a guy at work told me he was having the same problem with a male that is a grandson of the female I mentioned above, the problem seemed to start with warm weather, I asked him what he was feeding and Diamond was his answer, I told him to switch to black gold or Purina. I saw him Friday and he was very happy, his dog was recovering his coat and was even acting like he felt better.

i agree with allen if i was you i switch its worth a try but i seen them lose there coats and for some reason diamond was always the common deominator not saying thats your problem but its worth a try.

give her a good warm bath and get all the old coat out of her-she will lose coat after having puppies-don't forget to worm her after the pups are wean and maybe add some veg oil and vit C to her diet it will look worse before it looks better-but getting all the dead coat out will help it come back quick, a cold bath holds coat in, a warm bath losens and get the coat out that is dead-you should see long coated dogs after they have puppies-they almost get smooth coated

GO GET A TUB OF NEW STOCK......almost all feed stores that carry livestock meds will have it...this stuff will cure red mange...and will bring hair back....hmmmmm mabe i should try some for my hair....LOL...This stuff WILL work and its guarenteed..

If you can't rule out a parasite problem and your dog has been tested negative for heart worms, try this. Ivomec 0.1% solution. 0.10 (one tenth) of a cc/mg per 10 lbs. of dog weight. Ivomec will rid almost any internal or external parasite on a dog. A good vet that isn't money hungry will suggest Ivomec as a preventative for heartworms. Ivomec will cure mange, ear mites, etc. However, I've read that Ivomec isn't suitable for a dog from a herding family (collies, etc). I use Ivomec monthly on my dogs to prevent heartworms. It's cleared up ear mites on them successfully.

I'm not a vet. You may want to check with your vet before taking my advice. What works for my dogs may not work for yours. I'd hate for you to harm one on account of my suggestion.

I showed horses for years and used Flax seed as a daily suppliment. Their coast were like glass. Now that I show dogs, I use ground flax seed. You can get it at most feed stores and my dogs coats look great. I breed my dogs as well and do not have a problem with them blowing their coats. Everyone has somthing that works well for them, this has worked well for me. I feed vitamines as well.

I take a handful of flax seed to about a quart of water, bring it to a slow boil, take it off the heat and bring it back to barely boiling several times. The result is a translucent, mucous-like material. I mix several tablespoons in each dogs feed. Refridgerate the rest. I learned this as a stableboy about 40 years ago so I never thought of using raw flax.

I've only used this to make a dull coat better. If a dog has any skin irritation, I don't think it would help.
