Anyone driving a new Dodge truck??

I recently bought a leftover 08 Dodge pickup, it has the 5.7L Hemi and I have some issues with it and was wondering if anyone else on here owns one. The problem that I have is with the transmission, when running the truck in overdrive it goes in to high of a gear it seems like and around town or anywhere that you drive slow it lugs down kinda, like a manual vehicle in high gear, then you can give it a little gas and it will down shift but then you are going to fast. On the highway its kinda aggravating to, it shifts alot and in order to keep it from chugging in that high gear on the highway you have to accelerate more and then the next thing you know your doing 80. I called a dealership and talked to them about it and they said that it was normal. As far as the truck goes I love it, it has good power, its the Big Horn edition, I really like the looks of it, but Im not real crazy about the way it does. Everytime I get in it I have to turn the overdrive off, then once I hit the highway I have to turn it back on, can anybody else relate to this???

I have an 07 Ram, I dont have anything like that going on. Are you the first owner? If not, check to see if someone installed a chip to alter the transmission shift points. There's a port under the drivers side dash where a chip can be plugged in. Other than that, I'd have Dodge drive it with you to see what's going on. The transmission is completely tunable with several aftermarket and Mopar shift chips.

Driving an '08 too.

The 08 Hemi was designed to drop 4 cylinders when they weren't needed (lower RPM sustained driving) It sounds like you might have a problem not getting all 8 cylinders back when you need them. Just a guess.

i was told not to use the overdrive on my dodge if i wasn't towing or hauling something heavy down the highway. i guess that's what overdrive is for on my dodge.

dodge hemi

yes all of the comments could be on the rite track. but the hemi is built to run on horse power and hi rpm not torque i have a 2004 dodge with the 600 cummins . this engine runs at low rpm and relies on torque. test drove 2004 hemi and the same trouble that u are having could not stand it. oh the diesel gets 21 plus mpg not 10 to 13 never another gas truck

Doug the truck you test drove, it was doing like I described?? I called the dealership and they said to bring it in and they would check it, but they said that it was normal and that it takes some getting used to, they called it a 6 speed transmission. I dont much care for it, but if its normal I can live with it, I just dont want anything being wrong with it. Thanks
