Ticks

Does anyone have any advice for either tick removal or prevention on dogs?

I tried Frontline a couple times, and I never had luck with it removing fleas. Maybe I'm the odd one out on this one?

Brandon

Frontline will kill the fleas. You must make sure your box bedding in changed. If not fleas will still get on the hound but when they take a sip of blood from ole rover they will die!!

Hey Brandon,
I use Bio spot or front line. Been good. I've been thinking about switching to Revolution.
It's a once-a-month topical (on-the-skin) It is an effective heartworm preventive, killing the immature form of the heartworm . It kills adult fleas and prevents flea eggs from hatching for one month. It is also used for the treatment and control of ear mites and sarcoptic mange. Revolution is effective in controlling ticks also.
About 15 years ago. I had a flea investation. Nuked the dog . I bombed the house. Still had them things. Finally figured it out. I had a bunch of old moist straw laying on the outside of the dog house. They were in there. Learned a lesson there.

Frontline plus is to keep ticks off and fleas and eggs.
Im sure you have 2 choices on FVrontline. Frontline which works for fleas only. Frontline plus is for fleas and ticks. Like Danny said once the ticks and fleas get on the dog they will fall. Ive seen ticks stay for a some time but eventually they fall.

Best I have tried!

Look for a collar that contains amitraz. this is a pretty tick specific drug and it will work for dropping off the ticks.

The Frontline spray works a lot better than the drops.

fleas

any pour on will work. I have used ivomec for cattle that works too. When you change the bedding you have to use red cedar chips, the insects will not mess with it cause of the smell of cedar oil. Ole buddy back home taught me that, works like a charm, same reason termites will not jack with cedar.

you can't beat frontline. and if you search the net you can get it pretty cheap. i buy the large dog size and split it on 2 hounds.

I agree frontline is way over rated especially where ticks are thick.
Advanitx is great. I tried the bio spot spray in a bottle and it seems to be working pretty good too.

Frontline spray worked find on my terriers when we've hunted in the most tick infested place I know of. Eastern MO along the river. Got to be more ticks per square foot there than any place I've ever seen......
I got the spray from my vet, not online or from Wal-Mart. It's good stuff.

I second this opinion. This is what I use...
I was at a hunt last night. A gentleman told me Preventick is the best flea & tick collars. I'm planning on buying one too try.....

I have some of that and it is THE BEST thing for fleas. I'm not sure about using it for ticks though, they seem to still be around, but the fleas are long gone, even after I had no luck with frontline. Bayer did the trick.

Advantix does work well too!
If by chance you have a dog with alot of fleas use cap star tablets. These are purchased thru a vet. Knocks them off while you watch. Then use the preventitive
