If you guys are serious about training a dog on them it would be easy and take a little time. Just start out with about 6 buckets lined in a row, upside down. Tie the dog back. Put the mushrooms under a bucket in front of him. Using a word that you want to use when you want him to look for mushrooms and walk the dog along the edge of the buckets and keep his attention around the rims of the buckets. When he comes up to the bucket with the mushrooms in it, gently make him sit and reward him with something he is nuts about (dog bone, ball - preferred, favorite toy....) AND A LOT OF PRAISE. Move the buckets around, always using the same bucket so you don't cross contaminate them.(helps if you have a helper..) You will have to reinforce the sit when he comes to the bucket with mushrooms each time. Once he starts to sit on his own you know that he is starting to recognize odor. Then you start making the game a little more difficult by hiding the mushrooms in different places and make him find them. Always reward the dog when he does good and gently correct him when wrong. (he might want to false alert or sit just wanting his reward, tell him "no" and move him on using your word/command to look for mushrooms. When you first start keep it short and sweet, 15-20 minutes at the most. Your finals will be free casting him in an an open area where you have placed the mushrooms. Never let him touch the mushrooms. If he goes to touch the mushrooms, reinforce the sit command, then reward him. (a "play" drive dog is great for this.) If ya have any questions PM me and I'll try to work you through it or I'll give ya my number and call me......except for Lee. I know what he's capable of with an address let alone a phone number...
