Last Part

As I slowed to make the turn on to the gravel road that leads to my farm, my thoughts drifted. I had made my trip to the mall, stood in line to pay,and drove at risky speeds on the freeway just to keep up! I think of how my veiw of this old road has changed with time.I return to a time when bell bottoms were in...(the first time) The Eagles,Steve Miller Band and Fleetwood Mac wern't classic yet.And the only stress in my life was if my hair would still cover my ears after I got it cut.To a time before I knew of plus points and money hunts and that stop watches had anything to do with coonhunting. I often wondered where that gravel road led to......did it end? what was at the end? When I got my first car I hated the gravel....the dust and the dirt.I remember telling my mother when she asked what I was going to do when I finished school that I wasn't sure but I was going to leave this place and never come back. Well I never did leave this old place, but still have the dream. and now face real life stress, like how long will I be able to keep farming at the prices that are offered to me? I never realized how the sport of coonhunting could have impacted my life. And that a day would come when I could meet with coonhunters on a computer and learn about life. And that each of you could help me to see a little farther down this old road, for this I thank each of you.I came here because of my love for coonhounds but found so much more. Some of the memories that will always be with me from the last year...Tan and his fight with cancer...Pappy and the passing of his mother..and Whirlwind telling his story our thoughts and prayers have been with you all. And now with only a few days till Christmas my hope is that each of you can reflect on your memories of the past year and hold tight to them.Take time to dream...maybe it's to climb a mountain or to win the world hunt, maybe they will never come true but knowone can keep you from dreaming. There is a song from this year that comes to mind it is called" I hope you dance" one of me dreams is that if you get the chance I hope you'll dance! And if they want to black top that old gravel road.........well they are going to have to fight me to do now! Some day maybe our gravel roads will meet and we can catch up on old times........but till then I wish you all a Merry Christmas and the very best in the year to come! I hope you dance..........
